30 percent loss is due to added expenses the eld brings an expensive installs and monthly service fees

Wow. $15 a month is 30% of your pay? I've heard a lot of stupid reasions for not wanting an eld (along with a few good points), but this has to be the most ridiculous statement I've seen.

I don't want an eld. I see absolutely no reason or benefit for me.

    Not debating that.
While I have no problem with them, as I refuse to work more that 12 hours a day, I don't really see how they will help much.
No, I was commenting about the poster who said he would loose 30% of his pay due to the cost of an eld. At least one I know of (keeptrucking) is only $15 a month without a hardware cost. I cannot see how that would be 30% of any one's pay.

Maybe he was referring to a revenue loss due to ELDs. So many reloads/pick ups/deliveries were taking place despite the fact that they should no have due to HOS. Very few money minded cared about HOS, if there was a lucrative reload to be picked up even though 14 hours was up or it was going to catch you in the middle of the process. So the revenue loss of 30% is possible but nobody really knows what effect it will have on rates.

I am money minded too. I wish, at least, I was better at it. I am in this trucking thing only for money and nothing else. While working over 12 hours a day may not be too good but sitting at truck stops waiting for hours to restart is even worse.

Thinking just cause I'm on ELD I don't run hard is quite ignorant.... Run 6 hours stop 30 min run 4 to 5 hours shutdown for 10 do it again for 3 weeks then head home for a few days....
Should make generalizations about drivers on ELDs...
Now on paper I could run a few hours stop an hour knock out another 5 take a 30min finish out the rest of my "11" ( how far could I have made it today move start time forward appropriately to not be in violation) then shutdown for 10 oh didn't get caught move start time back again sleep 8 hours and run when I'm ready not when ELD says I have hours available can't do that on ELD

I think it's more of nuisance than anything.
There's lot's of times I could drive, but have to wait. By the same token, there's been times I haven't wanted to go, but had to.

I sleep at a lot of shippers and recievers now.

The 14 & 10 are the biggest PIA more so than the 11.

But the 1000 mile days are history.

ELD'S are a product of necessity to the mega carriers. The avg newbie couldn't figure a legal book without screwing it up. Lots of us were there no big deal. Till CSA2010. That was talked about long before it took effect. I had heard several good conversations hooray death to the mega carrier from small owner operators. Look at who came up with the E-log. All this #### about safety and it's my fault for tearing a page out is just smoke and mirrors to Congress so they will level the playing field. If you need the field leveled maybe you should work harder to be a better player.

Do not confuse that with work harder longer for less or even the same money
