I use more straps and put a chain on the front and rear of the pallet. They won't allow chains on the product. I put a block in between and strap that. They give you a diagram on how they want them.

I went off of CRST's diagram. A trip chain was included in that diagram, but it specifically said not to use them at that customer.

The shippers has them. Those coils are high dollar. You can use a chain on the wood. Just can't have it on the product. They don't even want bungee cords on the tarps. They want string, but I use bungees. Coils ding easy.

I didnt know that...I wondered one time I saw some poor ####### tarping with rope, I thought....what is he doing? That sucks....always used bungees too. Thanks, now I know what was going on.

The work order usually says ask the shipper for rope, but if you ask them they say bungees OK, just dont get the metal near the coil. They are always tee-peed from the straps anyway and won't touch the coil. Your welcome.

    Faber Thanks this.

Does the trip chain just go across the deck in front and back of the coil. Just trying to figure how ya'll put them. Never had to use em.

anything on a pallet....pallet gets tripped...chain on the deck around the front of pallet with a snap binder- prevent forward/aft movement....first and last pallet get it. Then like with the aluminum coils you can trip the coil with a rubber pad and a strap or something else to the effect say a wood block and rubber pad, gently with a strap- i never did that though....basially the idea is to stop anyting from going forward or backward instead of just using downward force to hold it down. Or say a pallet managed to slide out if the product didnt slide forward or vice versa....lack of its physical space means your restraints are now useless to boot , so trip them.
I cant remember now, I think I always just tripped the pallets on the 'eye to the sky' alum. coils and then strapped them down....never got those allot usually got alluminum mounted 'sucide' at logan.
do the same with shingles- just throw chain across deck in front of and behind first/last pallet....take no time to do....made me feel better.

    Coonass Thanks this.

In that case there were times where others would have used them (shingles) I just throw straps over them and tighten, and I never had any problems.
