Your DVD Drive must be a DVD Burner Drive to burn Movies to DVD. You must also have a good DVD burning program such as DVD Santa, Nero, Roxio or ConvertX.

Just get DVD shrink. It's great for "backup" copies of movies.

In your my computer window under the cd drive it has to say dvd-rw if it only says cd-rw then you can only burn data and music cds. Also anyone out here know which program will allow me to copy store bought dvds been trying to find a decent one, saw one at walmart not sure if it will copy store bought or rented dvds.

Walmart programs WILL NOT burn any DVD that has copy protection on it. Which is 99.9% of DVDs. To find out if you can burn a DVD simply stick one in the drive. If you can play it then it will burn it.
To burn store bought DVDs you will need a program that is able to remove the copy protection. Be EXTREMELY careful which program you buy. some will pop up and then never be updated and your screwed out of your money. Someone says DVD SHRINK or DVD SANTA. Shrink is hard for beginners to use because there are so many steps involved to copy the disk and this can be confusing to someone who has never did it. Santa does not update often enough. you could wait days or weeks for an update before you can copy a DVD with new protection.
I have been burning DVDs for 6 years and by far the easiest program out there is DVDFAB. It is simple and easy to use even for beginners. 2 clicks and presto! your done. It's $50.00 for a LIFETIME user key and worth every penny. It is updated usually the day BEFORE any new protections are released and you will rarely find a DVD you can't copy. -
Well I guess I should have clarified...
I have some movies on my computer...dvd movies that Id like to burn to DVD (or something) so I can play em and watch em with the wife on the TV downstairs via its dvd player. I burned a movie to a CD R thinking it would play on the dvd player (as they sometimes do), but nope....didnt work on the dvd player for the Tv...so thats where im stuck.
