I currently work at USX and would like to call out the person who started this post. The only time they force people to team are when they are not doing "well" as a solo driver, meaning they are always late, lost, banging into things. I mean think about it if freight is slow, what makes you think they could keep team busy? Yes they do "promote" team drivers but they do not force it. I was asked just last week if I would be interested in teaming I said no thanks, I still work here and get plenty of solo miles? How is that possible? If they make you team, lease or quit?
USX owns minority stock in alot of companys, they are not hurting as bad as other companies are, matter of fact I have pulled several loads that were supposed to be ran by schnieder it had thier name on the paperwork. I read this site alot and find that most of the "complaints" and or information is from disgrutled X employees. USX will be in bussiness long after some others are gone, how do I know this? They are too big to fail, they own alot of assets such as abiline, total, arnold, smith, C&C and probably others I dont know about. If they were in such a bad way how are they buying other companies?
Everyone always dislikes large companies because they feel like just a number. Well I dont mind being a number honestly, I mean do you really care if they know your name? Puhleeaaz, I think most drivers just like to be coddled and pampered. They like to act as if they impossible or too hard to replace, face it people drivers may have once upon a time been in high demand and maybe once upon a time drivers could "make" companies coddle them or caeter to them that time has came and went!
Its simple as this, if you dont like the company you work for then QUIT! Stop trying to act as if the company should warp itself into the way you think it should work, having said that I guarentee that no matter what color the truck you drive it will have the same problems your red one does!

USX runs an ad weekly in the local paper. Today's was just like the others, looking for SOLO'S, teams, and lease operators.

My husband currently drives for US Xpress. He started with them out of school and has been there five months. This week between Monday and Friday he got 2200 miles and then he has been sitting since Friday night. He just called to tell me he was concerned because he has been on the phone with a guy he met out in Oklahoma City. He met this guy back when he did his upgrade to solo at the OK City Terminal. They hit it off and have kept in touch. But unlike my husband this guy has been a driver with them for about three years. Today because my hubby is board sitting he calls the guy just to see how things are going for him and gets the news that as of yesterday he is no longer with US Xpress. Why? Because yesterday the guy was called into the OK City terminal and told that he was being "laid off" unless he wanted to team.
I said laid off? My hubby said, "well that's the words he used. But he did have the option to go team if he wanted".
I promised my hubby I would come get on the forum just to see if anybody had posted anything about all of this and low and behold.....goin2fast10 and Baack Thank this. -
Sounds like the need to make some reductions in their overhead, what better way.... At the drivers expense of course...

This just came out in the Charlotte Observer yesterday. Looks like they are trying to make money from leasing instead of freight hauling.
Just think, in bad times someone else makes your truck payments. Someone else pays workers comp, matching taxes, health insurance, vacations and holidays. Someone else keeps up your truck that they are paying for. And for a bonus, if things happen to where the driver has a lot of charge backs on his check, he works for free, and can't go to the labor board about it.

Another possibility is that they're trying to get rid of their experienced drivers so they can keep their wages low. I know it sounds crazy. But I drove for USX for a year and then noticed my miles start to drop way off. I don't know if it's true or not, but what I heard is that they try to get rid of you so they don't have to give you a raise. They then just replace with you a newbie at .26 cpm.
Of course this wouldn't make sense if there's a hiring freeze. -
I read the same thing (weekly) in Portland OR. Maybe the other driver/drivers lives in a bad location. -
Take the lay off and get paid to sit on the couch through the holidays!!! Heck, everyone else is doing it. -
Any new information about this topic?
