DVD drive / burning question

It requires a DVD r/rw drive.

you can check in your my computer window on the desktop or start menu. Look for the cd drives there one will say cd-rw like you say you already know you have. An the other one if it is a burner it will say dvd-rw. you can also look on the main case itself where the cd tray opens and closes. It will usually say on there as well look for dvd-rw if doesnt say that then you dont have a dvd burner.

 

Just google it and you will see the site where you can buy it.
They give you 30 days free to see if you like it.

Put a DVD in your drive.
If it plays on your computer then YOU have a DVD burner. If not, you can pick one up at about any store such as Wally world or Staples. They cost anywhere from $35 to $120. It really is just a matter of how fancy you wanna be. I recommend getting one that has Lightscribe since you can print right on the disk and you don't have to use ink.

 

newegg is were I buy every thing I need for My computer... They usually have Liteon DVD+-RW drives for around $20 with shipping usually under $5.

ziggystyles, unless you plan on creating a label to put on your disc, you will not need a lightscribe DVD-RW drive... Just thought I would save you from having to ask another question...

Oh, to tell if you have a DVD burner simply put a Blank DVD in the drive you think has the DVD burner, when the chose program box opens, it will tell you what type of media it is( IE: DVD-RW, DVD+RW or CD-RW, CD+RW,).

If you don't have one, then it's no sweat to change it.

HOW TO.

1. Unplug ALL cables from the computer and remove Computer... Now, depending on what kind of computer you have, removing the case will probably be the toughest part of the install.

2. Locate DRIVE YOU WANT TO REPLACE.

3. Unscrew drive and remove the ATI cable( the strip that is conected to it) by rocking it back and fourth from left to right/

4. Set jumper to the same setting as the drive you are replacing(see picture below bordered in red.)



If the jumpers on both the new and old drives are not the same, then simply pull the plastic cap out and put it on the exact seting as the old drive has...
Note. If your old drive has no cap on it then just remove the cap from the new one as it won't be needed.

5. Plug ATI cable into the new drive, screw it in and put the computers cover back on.

6. Replace all cables where the go, start computer and go directly to My Computer and check your Devices with removable storage to make sure you computer has recognized the new drive... If it does, then you are done...Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy a cold one while your DVD is burning.

Yea if you wanna lable your movies so they look good lightscribe is a good idea. If you don't care about a label you can simply use a sharpie.

 

Don't get me wrong... I love my lightscribe as much as I love my sharpie... I was just going the cheapest route, some of those Lightscribe drives are outrageously priced.

The disc's them selves have gotten cheaper thou...

 

Here's a question on this topic. I have both Nero and DVDShrink, along with AnyDVD. Usually us shrink for movies, and have been running into a problem with some of my copies no longer playing or glitching so bad that they are a pain to watch. I don't do 'cheap' DVD's either.

 

Did you set it for the right region code???
IE: NTSC OR PAL?
Most American home DVD players will only play in region 1 NTSC

NTSC is the video system or standard used in North America and most of South America. In NTSC, 30 frames are transmitted each second. Each frame is made up of 525 individual scan lines.

PAL is the predominant video system or standard mostly used overseas. In PAL, 25 frames are transmitted each second. Each frame is made up of 625 individual scan lines.

It's important to note that most DVD drives in computers will recognize either format... I can't tell you how many DVD I have that I can only play in a computer...

Whatever burning program you choose will have the option for you to select which region code to burn with... It's usually labeled as ' choose encoding format'.
