"They say" DriveCam can't monitor you, that it takes an event to trigger the camera to record and transmit video. I firmly believe that they can't do it real-time, judging by how long it takes to transmit 12 seconds of far-from-HD video.

One of my fellow drivers had a coaching they other day for dicking with his phone. This was on a smooth, semi-rural freeway in the late morning, with no traffic anywhere around him. Point being, there was no event to trigger the camera...

This is the first I've heard of this with my company. From when we were first told about the camera, it is supposed to be there to cover our behinds, and to make us safer drivers through coachings o_O:rolleyes::mad:. This apparently is no longer the case.

    Any other stories?

Ya, I’ve heard all kinds of stories. Mostly about safety staff who have nothing better to do than watch drivers while the camera is in off mode.

Then it dawned on me. We have 1500 drivers and only a handful of safety people. My common sense says ummm your just not that interesting .

Ya I thought that, too. Maybe this is some audit where they are pulling random video and he got unlucky. Any way I look at though, we were lied to.

Today's "connected" cams don't push up any video except for button press, g-triggered, or REQUESTED segments. They store from 48-72 hours of video back from real time, of time while the truck was moving or had not been stopped more than 5 minutes.

The point is it's never available "real time" but any segment they choose can be retrieved later. Either a random segment or a particular time segment (motorist call-in complaint investigation)

They also flag unusual vehicle movements activity when parked.

Drivecam pulls random samplings to justify the cost of monitoring.
