I just Google mapped ACF Environmental’s location on Plumosa Ave In Altamonte Springs,Florida where the accident occurred. Heading northbound on the SunRail tracks the train does indeed enter a sweeping left hand curve so the truck driver didn’t see the train until it was too late.

even with the right of way, slow da heck down. no need for fast trains, coming into a town or known dangerous crossing, and if it takes a mile as you say to stop a train...well then my arbitrary 3 mile distance for stop lights for the train works.

News flash-as a truck driver you’re responsible for navigating roads properly-ESPECIALLY AT RAILROAD CROSSINGS! And regardless of what speeds the train is traveling at when those warning lights and gates are activated(which they were at the time of the accident),that means get the **** OUT OF THE WAY!!!

Driver jumped out of the truck because of the train. He got back in real quick to try to move it and then tried to jump out last minute jumped out at last minute. Full details in the video

But you’re also supposed to be aware of your surroundings-including POTENTIAL HAZARDS. If I’m delivering near a set of railroad tracks I’m going to assume a train could come by and have an escape plan.
    ANYTIME IS TRAIN TIME!!

true, however, from the video, it did seem to look like he had to do a blind side in the dock area. he most likely did not see the warning lights. i am not certain that the gates come down ASAP or a few seconds after the lights. he must have been getting into a situation where he had to pull up a few times, the last (??) and then he jumped out, but then got back in again.

the city, state, county, KNOW there is a blind curve there, so do the train engineers.

slowing down around such a curve seems to me to be prudent.

If you can not safely dock your truck where they tell you at a customer's property, the proper thing to do is to disregard the request, park it somewhere safe, and work out some other way to sort the problem out - even if it means ignoring all the bickering and pressure, documenting the problem as best you can, returning to the nearest terminal with the load, and finding someone else to work for, because you are not actually better off dead.

He probably could've done more to get out of the way, but drivers shouldn't have to be worried about dodging a high speed train when they're backing into a dock. It's a very poor design and more should have been done to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
