I'm not sure on the exact length of the truck. It was like this one pictured. I also drove a small box truck. I'm going to call the college near me to see if they offer training too. My buddy drives a t/t and says it's pretty easy too, he likes it better than a dump truck. I'm gonna try out the refrigeration job this week to see if it's something I want to do and decide from there. Right now I'm thinking CDL, but gonna give the other job a try this week to be sure. Thanks for the help everyone.

Totally welcome, man. Since you are younger ( assumption only, don't hate....:( ) have you ever thought about going into foodservice, like GFS (not sure you have those there?) My good buddy @Mike2633 does just that, and does rather well, here in Ohio. Not sure how he got trained, tbh. You sure could look at some of his threads/posts/whatnot... just do a search of his name, or maybe if he's not on his split sleeper at home (like I am, haha!) he will show up.

In all honesty, that's a thought. You have experience off loading product manually; you'd be home every night (most, unless you do those 'surge' runs or whatever occasionally, like Mike) and build yourself a decent future.

If you definitely DON'T want to start with a mega (some DO pay and let you have a pet as I mentioned) and go OTR, it's something to look into. Were I younger, (look at the Pete, I'm older than her, haha!) I'd have done it. Ran a trash route with and for my dad, at 13 and up...and kinda got 'into' the industry. Then out, then back in, haha!

Driving the rig will come to you in time. It just will. Even having a trailer attached to your power will give you a leg up in this industry.

Look at some of Mike's stuff, will help you greatly!

It's all original frame on springs, 400 backed up with a 10spd on 3.70 but I did pick up a low air off a 95 379.
It's a NC truck all its life. Bought new in Raleigh in 82 to pull tanks and then a family friend got it in 1990 pulled flats and hoppers with it and then to me. The family friend was an older man so it just sat in weeds. I stopped by one day an ask what he was gonna do with it and he was happy to let me have it. I brought batteries, fresh oil and filters, new anti freeze and filter and a good looking over. Installed batteries and she busted off. I gave em 3k and he handed me the title. That Cummins was brand new out the crate. Maybe had 5k on it when it was parked. He wasn't lacking for money but looking at em you wouldn't think he had two nickles to rub together

I haven't thought about that but it's a good idea. But won't I have to go OTR before I can get local? I thought about driving for Home Depot since I work there.

Not sure.... don't believe Mike did. All situational. If you work at Home Depot, and walked in with your CDL P *just the permit* (and it will NOT negate your class A, btw...) they MAY take an opportunity to train you within and amongst themselves.

You can get your CDL permit by studying (your arske off) online, and go to your local DMV and take the tests to get the paper; many people actually 'have' to do this before going to school at the megas.... and then again (like Prime) they want you to do it all through them.

A leg up would be to try and obtain your CDL permit before jumping through ANY hoops, and see where it goes and what op's might open at H/D for you!

I'm looking at GFS and it looks good. They don't require experience, you can start with a permit and get trained. They aren't around here but I'd be willing to move, they have a lot in Florida and I'd like to live there. I'll look more into this. Thanks again

Class B or HVAC you could get a Class B license and still work for an HVAC contractor a lot of HVAC major industrial contractors have big straight trucks and things to make deliveries to there job sites and what not.

I don't think your original plan of driving for a propane company is that awful. If that's what your interested in I think that's just fine.

You're welcome, man. Look at OHIO ... a lot less pricey than Florida, btw~! ;) GFS's abound, as well as propane.. (for sure!!!)

Any GFS specifics, Mike can help ya with. Almost time for my 'nap..' as I depart at 0200, Lol!
