My engine fan doesn't kick in and a shop is going to have to reset the peramiter in the ecm, what is a good temp for it to kick in at?

    Lmao

The shop can't change the temp setting in your ecm.
It is set in stone with caterpillar at 217.

If they say they can then they don't know what there talking about

i had opposite problem. Dam fan wouldn’t shut off. That was the first sign my ecm was losing its internal memory. Then a month later I got the dreaded code for ecm sensors not calibrated. Cat had to replace computer and obviously all was well 2k later and fan started to work again properly obviously. You replaced the air solenoid I assume already?

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Mine comes on at 216°, but I have a C13.

OP, yours doesn't come on at all?

There is more to the story... I'm withholding information but trying to keep it simple, I did call cat and they said 217 also but that just seems really hot for this year of motor. Seems like the acerts I've ran have kicked in around 210 and this being my first truck and already having a ton tied up in it I don't want to cook the head or something from it getting hot. Thanks for the info!

It's cold up here in North Dakota and I'm working nights ever since I got the truck going for the last month so the truck hasn't gotten warm except for two or three occasions that got up to 215 and I kind of panicked a little bit backed out of the throttle trying to get it cool down. 215 just seemed hot for a cat

You know, I was a little apprehensive, at first, but I have to admit, I like the little Cat.
When I bought the truck, it had just under 200,000 on a Cat Reman (the previous owner had windowed the block, somehow). I did a PDI tune and it gained me about a mile per gallon. I just had a Platinum overhaul done at about 650,00 due to a blown water line. I didn't catch it quick enough and she got hot and scored a couple liners.
All that aside, the motor runs and pulls great. I run Midwest to Northwest so I'm in the mountains a lot and I don't regret buying this truck. I mean, aside from buying a truck. LOL.

Mine kicks on at 216° and cools right down. I've never had a problem with it except for the above situation, which was my fault, not the engine's and I've owned the truck since 2013.

    Oxbow and 6nz389 Thank this.
