Hello! So i’ve been really wanted to get a cdl this coming january and start a trucking job. I am 22 yo and i have a speeding ticket from back in April this year for going 74 in a 45 zone, so it’s 29 miles over. Now the posting speed sign was right next to my car and it said 50 miles, and i saw after the officer left and gave me the ticket, but i realize this might not change much. I guess my mistake was that I didn’t fight it in court and i just went to traffic school and paid it off. I was going through a difficult time back then and court dates and fees was the last thing i needed. This is my first and only ticket on my record. Now i was really excited about starting school and get my cdl and look for a company to work for, until i remembered about this. Is there any point in even getting a CDL at this point? Or should i wait a year or two? Are there any companies that would even consider hiring me? Thank you for reading and for any answers!

depends on your state. some states the time frame maybe be 2 years, some (like mine) 3 years, others 5 years. it will fall of the radar so to speak, BUT will still be on your permanent driving history. most companies in a job application ask, "any tickets in the past 5 years"?

if your state, they drop off after 3, then don't mention it. if a company wants your entire life record, they will order it up, otherwise, they accept what YOUR state provides

This is going to be one of those PTL or Carolina Cargo threads. Those two companies usually will hire anyone with a pulse.

Anyways, are you sure that you want to drive? Are you absolutely certain? Not trying to be a buster, friend, but do you know that you drive blind? Ignoring road signs is driving blind.

With speed zones the police are supposed to give you a leeway of some sorts from when the speed zone changes say from 75 to 50 it might be 300 yards or it might be 500 yards to allow you to slow down to the right speed in other words the officer can't sit right on where the sign changes speed, unless there's a sign before hand stating that the speed is reduced up ahead. having said that if you have a ticket check the web site of the potential employer and just see what the minimum requirements are for hiring they may say something like less than 3 tickets in last 5 years or no more than 3 traffic infringements in last 5 years if you only have the one be that at it may an excessive speed you may still be ok, knowing that most trucks now are speed limited you will be alright especially if you go with Swift..

I don’t have an excuse for what happened, i was speeding so I’m not going to deny that. But yes i am sure that i want to do this, because i know that was a one time thing. I usually don’t speed like that. I used to maybe go 5 or 10 over but that was it.

once you manage to get a CDL, 10 mph over can get you into deep stuff too....
