Now you're getting where I'm coming from with this whole thing. It isn't so I can play Martin Penwald and outlaw my way across the country, it's so I can do my job and make a living with some flexibility and without a whole lot of government overreach due to useless, confusing laws written by people who have never even seen a truck up close.

Hey, I love my Ultrashift! However; if I were to go out and buy a new truck tomorrow, I'd have to give it a lot of thought. My biggest complaint is that, when something goes wrong, no matter how minor, there you sit. Dead battery? Sit. Starter go out? Sit. Sensor fail? Sit. Some stupid voltage fluctuation from God knows where? Sit.

    But, that's for another thread.

This is true. Trucking is heavily dependent on customer service and on-time performance. As such, a driver is (should be) expected to use whatever options are available to insure the appointment is made. I have to use it (8/2 split) 2-4 times every month to make appointments which are critical for some of our shippers. Too many missed appointments, they send that business elsewhere.

But I too prefer the 10 hour break as a general rule.

I had to do an 8 split last night to make my appt. In Detroit. I've done it twice in 2 years. I don't like it, but they are good to me.

You won't see this company driver asking for an auto. Yeah I drove one, it was ok, I can see some of the benefits, but I specifically asked for a manual. I like the control I have over the engine speeds

Leave it to the gov to make a mandate on trucking dec 18 , did they calculate the busiest day of the year and then decide to make that the deadline lol.
There's is over 200 models of ELDs on the market , if I was some one man show I would buy the most obscure model made , one no LEO could figure out , then just smile and hand it out the window .
I'm starting to look forward to this debacle , we will need a holiday thread , maybe the "12 days of ELD" or "ELD festofus"

The reason we're stuck with the new HOS rules and the ELDs is to drive the little guys out of the industry. The big outfits, with their slow rigs, chicken feed pay, and inexperienced drivers, are behind the new nonsense. It's also why we're seeing all the new billboards on the highways advertising lawyer services for those involved in truck wrecks. Those lawyers know they can dig around in our ELDs and find something they can use against us in court. We need to see more billboards advertising lawyer services for those hurt by texting drivers. Anyway....if the big companies in trucking went out of business tomorrow, by Monday we'd be making at least 25% more pay. The cheap corporate outfits needed to give themselves an advantage, so they lobbied and got ELDs and the 30/10/11/14 scheme.

I think 722 dead people is a lot.

more people died on their bicycles. 840. i wonder what the bicycle,or boating mileage per death is compared to the 722 trucking deaths.

still think this is about safety? mmm....good kool-aid.....
