racial profiling is a proven system that works............but it's a system that has been abused by some.

Here's my 2 cents on it,
If you don't dress like a thug, act like a thug, or run your mouth like one, you won't be treated like one. If you dress like a criminal you'll be treated as one from the cops first impression.
Then run your mouth like an idiot and yea they're gonna check your #$$ with a microscope.

a representative of fmcsa or state dot can open your truck anytime to inspect your load . your load must be laoded properly , evenly and you must show the proper shipping documents . as per reason for the stop a safety inspection is reasonable . i stop frieght van drivers and ask them what they are hauling and they say "i dont know " . also have no shipping papers . the reason for searching this vehicle would be easily articulated in court .your sleeper birth must contain a mattress and adequate bedding . it must also contain a restraint system "seat belt " . the emergency exit must also open from the inside . good enough reason to get in your sleeper for any inspector and totally legal .

So the rule of life is, "If I do not see it, it does not happen". Closed mind maybe. If a tree falls in the woods....

So why don't or why didn't the officers involved in the first post on this subject just state that and not be coy about it. Drivers that don't know what they are hauling specifically would not be unusual but not having shipping papers should be unusual.

Not sure of the tone of your post on one hand your post is informative but inflammatory on the other hand could explain the following quote?

"i stop frieght van drivers and ask them what they are hauling and they say "i dont know " . also have no shipping papers ."

Is this ALL freight drivers? Or just the New York freight drivers or do you really mean ALL FREIGHT DRIVERS ARE IDIOTS.:biggrin_25525:

Having fun with you a little bit but do please explain.

A solo driver does not need the "seat belts"

And you are going to be an extremely busy man inspecting all the thousands and thousands and thousands of freightliners, Petes, IHes, volvos, and Kenworths that have no E hatch.

If statistics prove a certain crime, such as the transportation of illegal substances, is committed by a certain race of people 75% of the time, is it racial profiling to check that race of people 75% more than other races? Should law enforcement agencies be required to keep a running total, to insure we do not infringe on some peoples rights, halting any checks on that race of people until a balance is attained?

God forbid, but if someone broke into your grandmother's home, robbing, raping, then beating her to death, and a eye witness saw the perp, who happened to be a particular race, do you stop the search at a point to prevent racial profiling?

I look at racial profiling as another loophole for scumbag lawyers to get their criminal customers back out on the street. An innocent person has no reason to be concerned. I also think that the amount of LEOs that abuse their authority is way smaller than people think.

OFFICIAL DISCLAIMER: I am NOT, nor is anyone in my family an LEO. I just happen to like the idea of "law and order".... (has a nice sound to it, don't you think?)

    Ponder this....

If a certain race IS considered to be more likely to commit a certain crime(ie. transportation of illegal substances) say, 75% of the time... Therefore, this particular race is scrutinized/checked at least 75% more than another race... Isn't it reasonable to assume, that there will be a greater number of arrests/convictions of the greatly scrutinized race... skewing a statistcal trend toward a conclusion that the scrutinized race IS arrested and convicted more therefore, that particular race MUST commit more crime and be profiled accordingly?

Excluding Socio-Econmic status, I think every race has about the same propensity for any given crimminal act.... Racial profiling, just skews arrests/convictions in the direction of a particular race, and keeps that race there, simply because they have a greater likelihood of getting arrested and convicted.
