I'm trying to get a delivery job in town as I have two young kids and want to be home. I do come from the automatic type family as I have never driven a stick extensively until this cdl school. I have driven in town in multiple vehicles for the better part of 20 years but never a stick. What's better for in town deliveries a manual or automatic? I also have a class b driving job that im looking at also delivers but it's all automatics. My comfort level is much better in a automatic as opposed to a manual because of all the driving I've done in automatics. I have a chance to test in a manual or auto but I don't want to fail the manual test. It's already been to long and I need to get back to work as soon as I can. How much does a restriction hurt with the in the city jobs? I ultimately want to get experience and move on to the Pepsi and Budweisers of the world.

I think one both jobs I'm looking at are at least 15 stops a day. I'm also looking at Sysco and I imagine it's the same there.

If you can put up with stupid/rude grocery dc workers, Sysco would be a good job! I almost went that route, except I want OTR.

OTR would be great but both my kids are under the age of 4. I'm so used to an automatic that a manual looks daunting in town. OTR not so much.

Don't worry about the shifting when deciding on a job. It will get to where you aren't even thinking about it.

Look at the pay, home time, benefits, etc.

Sysco pays well! The work is hard and you have to unload your truck. But you will get good checks. After unloading your truck, a little bit of shifting wont phase you one bit.
