$1.25 a mile out of Indiana? That's ridiculous even for Van out of there, I've never seen rates that low.
    Are you using DAT?

Yeah. I went out for just under $3.00, but the brokers were trying hard to push the crap out cheap. It was basically as 1-1 market on Thursday and Friday throughout the entire state.

It all worked out in the end, got set up with another broker that doesn't take new carriers because it was late and they needed the load moved.

I no sooner got that load booked, left the truck stop Friday afternoon, and the phone started ringing. Brokers were definitely holding out to the last minute though.

@freightwipper how do you feel your numbers would stack up running solo versus running team working the load boards? You may have mentioned it but is DAT the only board your using?

Where are all these rates posted? On DAT only a handful post rates. Also the load to truck ratio is sometimes fools gold because brokers have a bad habit of posting a load 5 or 10 different times, and sometimes guys posts trucks in markets they're not even in. I do use the 15 day average, but there's been times I'll be in what perceives to be a hot market, I'll post my truck and the phone doesn't ring for hours.

I've been solo a few times.
Can get a lot better average rate per mile on shorter loads.
    Many $4-$8 a mile 100-150 mile loads
I even see on the board now a Vandalia to Wintersvilles posted for $1000, like $4.76 a mile on 210 miles or so.

See a Vandalia to Pioneer posted for $900 also, like $6.30 a mile.

Those Van loads are a couple examples of loads posted with the rate... On a Saturday night. I'm sure Schneider ICs wouldn't be happy to hear those numbers being they run those loads for a lot less.

I have access to a lot of stuff but I really mainly just use DAT.
I pretty much just use what's posted as a reference and aim for brokers to call me because I can get more money than what's posted when they call me.

Those rates were on DAT and were apart of that handful. They were all reefer loads though.
You are right though, many don't like to post a rate. They are hoping you call in and tell them you'll do it for cheap lol.

The load and truck post count is a tool, not saying it's perfect info.
Reefer is a different ballgame than Van.
Many of these reefer loads can't sit around waiting for a cheap truck to come get it, that's the whole main reason I got a reefer.

Actually, I see it different. I see people posting rates as the ones hoping to move a load for cheap. I think we have lots of drivers out here who are not capable of negotiating rates, and will simply choose from the low rates that are posted.

When you watch closely, though, you will see a desperate broker through big money up on the board, and you better call quick, LOL.
