Hello,
I just got my cdl class a license. Not driving yet,but gathering comments from truck drivers veterans of the industry,to learn. The other day, while driving my car,I see a semi stuck trying to make a right turn on the express way entrance. Completely stuck. The poor guy, couldn't even back up because of the stop light. I live in Chicago,IL. If anyone is familiar with the area,he was trying to get on 290W Highway, from Harlem Ave South( Very narrow ramp). I was wondering, new drivers , or drivers from another State, use special truck driving GPS,that shows them the road to take? Or receive directions from dispatcher which way to take? I mean, how did this driver ended up in that situation? Thanks,to all your comments.
Do new drivers use gps? Truck driver stuck on the highway ramp

I'm not looking for yet. But maybe next year I start looking. For now, I'm a limo chauffeur. Why you ask about the job?

it's best to have city maps as well as a truckers atlas.
many GPS units one can switch from car to truck mode.
the directions a dispatcher may have, may not be 100% accurate as well.
sometimes, if you can call the customer as well.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
How do you know they were following a GPS or directions from Dispatch? Simply could be they were trying to drive and not knowing where to go or plan ahead for their route? Could be lost also..

Personally, I use a truck specific GPS and Google maps on my phone. Occasionally, I'll have to break out an atlas. None of these are 100 percent foolproof, you also have to use common sense.
When I was brand new, we had a crappy GPS built in to the Qualcomm device. Hated that thing.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
