All the way back to creation the weak need to be around though. You dont need to carry them persay, just keep them around to get eaten by the lion so you dont. I just 180'd the #### out of this thread talking about survival and not elds.
Ok back on track.
Well its not your fault or my fault that jimmy bob grew up and made stupid mistakes in life and now needs his hand held. Buuuut look at the country as a whole and what the government does for the needy. People in general are lazy, theyll take a handout where one is and if it makes their life or lives easier they will jump on the bandwagon till they grow up or till they die. Elds are no different than food stamps when you compare them to western flyer needing government help to get through the day and survive. Unfortunately those who do not need hand holding get stuck with the burden of the people who do need it. Example: elds now give you the power to say no time left or whatever. While Pedigreed doesnt need the eld to say so.
Then pedigreed is stuck with supporting government help like foodstamps through pedigreed's hard earned paycheck, but the needy collect off of pedigreed.
Its a government issued program where only the weak win and the strong are expected to adapt and go along.
You get what im saying? I tried to make myself clear, i feel that i didnt do a solid job though.
Im not picking on you western flyer, your post though is just for my example.
Would any of you use an ELD without being forced to?

What guys like you don't understand is e-logs are just a recording device. No different than paper log. You can fudge elogs to, if you know how. But you all want to come out aganist these boxes, instead of trying to fix the hos.
Now, I will agree no one should be forced to have them, but drivers should have the choice like they do now, and if they choose to go with elogs, get the fees waived of a tax break incentive for going with them.
I ran both paper and elogs. I like the elogs better. It was one less thing I had to worry about, like when to take my 30, cause it already told me. I know, I know a "real" driver wouldnt have to worry about it. However, with the stress of this job, worrying about 4 wheelers, safety, appointment times, weather, it is nice to know I don't have to worry if I took my break or if I am using the 15 min rule correctly.Moving Forward Thanks this. -
So on or off duty doesn’t matter much to me .
But I am grateful that elogs prevents drivers from unloading in multiple cities all day and then changing their log to look like they were parked off duty and can drive 14 plus hours through the night.
How mAny times have I read “If I’m away from home then I will be driving and not sitting in a truckstop for 10 hours at a time”?
We need elogs,
They can still be cheated but not as easily as loose leaf logs.

First of the HOS is a large problem, and the ELDs. ELDS operations cost to me if I bought one. (not including initial purchause) is $600.00 for 12 months. Total investment for 12 months paper logs $36.00. That is 16.66 years of paper. That is how it changes it for us owner ops. Next remember most Megas actually have Aobrds or Erods. full editable, not hooked to engine and they have a 2 year extention. Do you think this might be used to their advantage? The eld still wont stop as you say outlaws. You can purchase hacked equipment for $1000.00. Elds wont stop the scab companies, or drivers without cdl. It does take cash from my pocket. I as a responsible business owner can not purchase equipment that does not make me safer or makes me profit.

ELDs force the companies and driver running way over to run legal for the most. Do you all understand how you can make 1,600-3,000 miles disappear on paper logs ? That's the problem.
You want to know what companies would tell driver that would not play the game with paper logs. I can tell you, they say if your loads are late your fired ! How do you say no to a company like that ? When you apply for your next job and the find out you got fired because your loads are late. They don't hire you also. Do you see a pattern when you did no go along and play the game ?
ELDs stop that game. I like seeing that game coming to an end let's see how many hour driver are giving up for free. The ELDs will show most of that. I'm not talking about 1 or 2 hours. I'm talk about 1,600 miles or 25 hour of work.
