I am leaning toward flat bed as I'd like to have some type of physical work involved. Have lots to learn yet, so don't quote me. Open for anything and everything.
- Have you considered what type of freight you will Haul?
I am in fact looking for OTR yet preferably regional. (Midwest region)
- Driving OTR (living out of a Truck)?
Local trucking I know little about, aside from humping cases of pop for Pepsi co at slave wages.
- Driving Local?
Family- I know the feeling of witnessing my wife and kids utilize food stamps while checking out at grocery store. While I'm a well bodied, willing an able late 30's male that should easily be able to provide common living expenses for me and my family.
- Have you considered the impact this job will have on your family/friends/relationships?
Friends- I have a lot, none of them worth a #### to be honest.
Relationships- I have elderly parents, I wish to spend time with before it's too late.
I'd love home every night, yet those jobs don't pay and I would work like a dog.
- How much time will you need at home (1 time a mth, or everynight, etc)?
I'm looking for 11-12 days on and 3 days off.
Looking into the Trucking scene, few questions?

Stew, I'll start this off with saying I feel ya. I won't even try to compare, but when you made the food stamp comment, I can totally relate. Before I went back driving, I barely got my family by driving a taxi, as the field I excelled in went bye bye to foreign land, and I was left scrambling to pick up the financial pieces. Even after this second snafu (medical) I'm still really eager to get back out there, even at personal sufferance of not getting to be with my family every day, to make sure they have what they need and what they want. I have a great wife, mind you, whom I think makes all the difference, as she understands why I do it.
I'm rambling, but yeah, my heart's out to you.StewBear Thanks this. -

Stew, you can be home, and make good money working local. LTL drivers make $70k-$100k. You have to unload your own trailer sometimes, but it can be worth it to those who want to be home every night. It is for me. Here are a few companies that offer those schedules, and wages if you're interested. All of these companies will say they require 1-2 years of experience on their website, but it's really just preferred. One of them hired my brother in law fresh out of trucking school. I may or may not work for one of them;
-ABF
-Estes Express
-AAA Cooper Transportation
-R&L Carriers
-Saia
-Southeastern
-Central Transport
-Old Dominion
-Dayton Freight
I can't think of any more at the moment, but those are a few to consider.StewBear Thanks this. -
Triple6- It is I, that would be honored to buy you lunch! I consider all of you soldiers in the field and have the utmost respect. Thank you for the up lifting words.
This goes for all that chimed in, your comments are not in vain.

Update:
I have reached out to county Work Force Development center to attempt any possible funding/support for local trucking schools. IE: Community College, Private Institutes, anyone to be honest.
I have also applied to selected "Big" Company "train to hire" 1 yr contract deal.

I will keep you guys posted as things progress.
Thanks,

My last position was maintenance mechanic role, specializing in hydraulics, 480v-4160v elec, welding, etc. I can’t speak exactly to what they produced, due to federal imprisonment terms and reg. They did make the rims for Mars space rover which is cool. I’m drove an supported the worlds largest manipulator though, 4 stories tall, literally. Here is a pic of 1920’s technology forge, this is a tic taco compared to 2017 milk dude, mind you...
