Or soak some rags in fuel, place under oil pan, and light em' up!

Pan heater, although not too much heat migrates to the block. The same people also make heat pads that stick to the outside of the block, like the pan heater.

The best, though, is an Espar or Webasto coolant heater with a seven-day timer.

    Oxbow and DUNE-T Thank this.

Just a tip, next time do all the prep before winter that way you won't be caught out in the cold so to speak. I'm thinking if you had access to power an electric blanket may work i mean other than lighting a fire under the sump.

Well back in my days in north Dakota getting froze up trucks running ya got 3 4×8 sheets of plywood and a couple tarps to block in the front of the truck and put a torpedo heater blowing hot air forward just in back of the fuel tanks .
Go have a 6 pack or 2 while keeping an eye on things and she will fire up .

Get an old turnout exhaust stack, weld some legs on it to hold the turnout part facing up, put a propane weed burner torch in the straight end and put the turnout under your oil pan.

I've used torpedo heaters with good luck too, can't always guarantee I'll be within range of 110v.

Both methods, if I have one with me, pull the hood up on the truck, tarp over the engine as much as you can, and then shut the hood over the tarp.

SAR, DUNE-T, bzinger and 2 others Thank this.
