If I as an owner is required to pay for such equipment mandated by the government, it encroaches on my income. That is what it has to do with your question.

    Again Huh?
What does that have to do with my question?
How is enacting a law that forces the vast majority to run compliant an encroachment?

    Actually no.

You should really read the definition of encroachment.

Werner and Swift and other large ATA companies we're the biggest proponents of this, likely because they felt they could make more money with it.
If purely for safety they would have been happy to just provide the equipment in their trucks.

The rest of your post does not warrant a response.

    Have a great New Year.

Laws to run compliant were already in place. HOS are the same either way.

Timin770, SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

I think many here are missing the point of the ELD entirely. It's not about compliance. It's not about safety. The companies that have been exclusively electronic for years are the biggest killers on the highway, you can look that up. What it is about, is control. And running many of the smaller companies out of business. More for them, less for you.

I'm an old dog. Will I learn this new trick? You bet I will. But in a few months I will either be running within 100 miles or working at the local saw mill. I don't need a 10 hour break or a 34 hour restart or 70 hours in 8 days for that matter. I need to drive when I'm rested and rest when I'm weary, and only I know when that is. I'm a man, no one pushes me beyond what I'm capable or into anything I'm uncomfortable with. 25 years without a wreck. I can count my tickets on one hand. If you think you need a government beaurocrat to guide your every move than have at it.

The sanctimonious tone of the compliance crowd is very telling, and a sad comment on the slow and certain demise of the American Spirit. Most of you couldn't even say why they came out with logs in the first place, you should look that up as well. Like everything else your so called leaders do for your alleged benefit, it always leads to your eventual poverty and enslavement.

If your present gig happens to gell with electronic logs, more power to you. But I believe that most of those on here touting this latest "encroachment" are nothing more than a bunch of lazy peckerwoods.

Megas keep track of hundreds to thousands of drivers, automation makes that easier, requiring fewer employees, so the logging systems pay their own way for them.

There is a breakeven number, below which, the cost is increased, and that varies, depending on mixed duties of company management staff. It's going to cost a single truck more than paper logs.

Another note, ELD is a sea change, the amount of data collected makes malfunctions more likely, hence you have to keep it visible, have the indicator lights, have the ability to log those malfunctions and on and on.

Less than 2 weeks and had that already, and that was a 'recognized' malfunction. I'm in IN, my data is now good, so I'm able to help the phone. And Hoosiers baffle the heck out of me, the thought process seems different. Even up here in Chicagoland east.

By your logic we should fill trucks with foreigners with lots of Red Bull and ephedrine pills and let them drive all they want.
How can you think a 10 hour break is too long?
