I just gotta spread this around. Wondering if anyone else has seen the same.

For years, the deer being run over on the roads has made me sick. Seeing just too much of it. I've prayed they would start learning. Well... I just got the best Christmas gift I could get. They've started learning!

We have a highway through town. Two lanes each side. Divided by enough room you could fit a freeway in there.
I was driving on that highway. Saw a deer moving pretty good. Came up from the middle. I stopped for him. He stopped at the edge of the road. I wouldn't move. I wasn't far from him. He turned around and headed back in the middle. Four other deer were there waiting. He stood by them. Watching me. Others started watching me too. So I went. People behind me and the other side of the road were able to stop a good 100 to 150 yards back. Other side of the road. Another six deer crossed the road with heads down. Kinda sheepishly. I watched in my mirrors. The others then proceeded across my side. It was obvious communication. Obvious learning. They're figuring out to avoid cars! Thank God! Best present I could have gotten this year!

I was just thinking the same thing a few nights ago. Given how the numbers of automobiles and trucks miles has literally quadrupled just in the last 30 years or so, you'd think wildlife populations would have to be bordering on extinction, yet they seem to be doing well, and you really don't see any more dead wildlife today than you saw 20 years ago which is really amazing when you think about all the extra traffic in rural and suburban areas.

So, it seems some are still stupid and/or unlucky, but a portion must be developing new "senses" and instincts.

Come to Maryland sometime, when the wheat is this high. You will see one, but you aint gonna see the next 5. he he.

A long time ago im sitting up in snowshoe in the corner had some of that Sbarro pizza on the dash there by the open window.

One came up to the cab sniffing. I don't know about you but it's not right. I closed the window on it. 3 more showed up.

The teasing started on the radio. It's one of the very few times Ive gone into that little stop. I think they are still teasing out there.

You're talking in the fall. Hunting season. I've seen them hiding behind a bar in town, during hunting season. hehe

It's all good. We were on a farm roadway which had a sharp curve left where the herd wanted to cross. SO we turned left and they kept running. Speeds were rather fast too.

Perhaps they'll give lessons to the squirrels, opossums, and raccoons.

The deer by the Walmart DC in wintersville are quite smart. They stand on the side of the road and look both ways before crossing. I've seen this MULTIPLE times. So have other drivers for that matter.

However, you drive a mile or 2 in any direction from there and you start to see bodies on the road.

I was thinking they could teach a thing or two to swift, fedex, crst, and the rest of the crash test dummies.
