    Hi Friends,

...hope all is well where you are. I'm driving local down here in SE fla.

I started a discussion with a young man from Oklahoma who's been a stay at home dad for the past 2 yrs and NOW he wants to start driving OTR. He claims he was turned down by Prime (because he has no verifiable income for the past 2 yrs). I thought this was strange but not sure (i thought Prime would hire anyone with a pulse....apparently Not).

ANYWAY, What company will hire and train him without a 'recent 2yr Job History?

    Thanks for your input.

Be careful here. There is a great chance this person is NOT telling the full truth. My suspicion is this person lied on their application and got caught. PLEASE PLEASE BE TRUTHFUL ON THESE APPLICATIONS.

Prime is about the hardest company to be hired with, followed by Wil-Trans and Jim Palmer Trucking.
He may need a letter stating he was a stay-at-home dad for 2 years. Some companies may want the letter signed by a couple of family members or friends, then notorized;ask the recruiters.Did he file taxes those two years; if so have that paperwork available. Some drivers haven't worked in years due to the same reason or other reasons such as living on an inheritance or in jail and still are accepted at some companies.
    Try these:
    Contract Freighters - www.cfidrive.com
    FFE (Frozen Food Express)
    Millis Transfer
    Stevens Transport - www.stevenstransport.com
    Witte Bros.
    Western Dairy Transport - www.wdtmilk.com

If im reading the OPs post right im thinking the person either has no CDL history or has never driven OTR and has no income at all for those years. No income can be a major red flag and that time needs to be accounted for. There is not enough information to formulate an opinion. Is this person married or was he per chance on some kind of welfare or living with someone else? As @Chinatown said Prime can be a pain. If this person does not have any W2 or 1099 income for 2 years they might well pass on him. My best advice is go find another less particular company.

Simple.. if a stay at home dad, get letters from friends signed and notarized that he was such. In this day and age it is either or when staying at home with the kids.... daycares are too expensive... they eat the 2nd income...

Actually if this is the case all the man needs is his joint 1040 listing the income. However it is impossible to give advice here because we don't know why the man was stay at home or even if he was married. I say this because right now I know a stay at home dad that is divorced and not working. He is living with his sister. Sometimes and I know this from experience, a company don't like these long periods of no income. They want to know why not just for you to account for the time. Off the top one reason for this is some people are in gangs and sold drugs. ( I know it sounds silly ) You have to ACCOUNT for the time as well as ACCOUNT for how you lived with no income. Some of these carriers have contracts that call for the carrier to have vetted their drivers. I have been through this, I know what I am talking about.

Gotcha Moose. I'll tell him to come here and see what was written. When there's 2 little ones in the house, some one has to be around, unless you are confident with day-care centers (which most parents are not).

    Makes sense....

My personal experience, I had over a five year gap in employment. Not one company flinched only asked if I had last year's tax filing . no clue but possibly my being over 40 had something to do with it.
