So I did another training trip down south this past week. Two guys instead of just one. Boy was that a mistake (one new guy slows the twosome down considerably already, three is a joke). A three and a half day trip took five (no thanks to the storm that blasted Green Bay, WI). One of the guys was great, but the other isn't cut out for this job and was not paying attention to stuff I was saying (needing to repeat half of my instructions), and really dragging butt.

He screwed up his logs the first night, delaying us into missing our delivery the second day. He went into the truck stop for coffee the third morning right as our 15 minute pretrip was finished. And he decided to stop in Grand Forks for a fuel receipt he didn't need to waste time getting (he forgot it in Fargo), without telling me before getting off the interstate... so I just left him behind.

Fortunately, the other guy was great and I'm sure he'll be an asset to us, but three times doing something totally stupid, and that's grounds for me leaving you in the dust. I've had other drivers tell me I have too much patience. This guy really tested mine. And I'll be asking for mileage premiums the next time I do this. I could easily get this trip done in the time it's supposed to take on my own.

Also, I can't talk about it just yet, but big changes are coming for me in the near future. I'll just leave it at "I'm starting to resent being an in-classroom trainer".

For a while it seemed like I was teaching every new driver where I work. I feel for you when you say you get tired of it. Having to explain the same thing over and over just for them to turn around and do it wrong again.

Alright, so long story short, I'm heading back out on the highway full time this coming spring. I gave the classroom training "ye olde college try" and it's just not for me. I got into trucking to escape the drudgery of the office life, and I was circling the drain about to get sucked back into it. And not getting paid nearly enough to do it.

I didn't bother negotiating for more money because I don't want to do it. I want to drive. I want to make major bank, and have the skills and personal drive to do it. My wife is in full support and a year's worth of work and we can buy a house just on what I'll make ON TOP of what I'm currently making (down payment on mortgage). 5-6 days out and home on weekends is a small price to pay for being happy at work.

We are getting brand new 389's with X15 Cummins in them and I could possibly get into one this spring. As much as I don't want a DEF truck, I've never been given the opportunity to drive a brand new truck and the new graphics package they are putting on these things is too #### sexy to resist. I'm going to see if I can take one out for a test drive soon and see how they pull (they have them spec'd at 500 hp with 13 speeds) before deciding.

Current load I just delivered. Coworker with me had a similar tank but his was 15ft longer. Being my first escort load wasn't too bad. They put me with a couple of experianced escorts. We got it done. 20171218_094446.jpg

10-4. Y'all must have a bunch of those things moving. The one I saw today looked exactly like yours. He had a pole car up front and a escort behind.

Logan76, 4mer trucker, SAR and 2 others Thank this.
