look at it this way, no matter what company you are with, you should never get less than 2k miles a week, take two weeks off a year, thats 50 (weeks) times 2000 (miles) = 100,000.
I typically come home for about 5 or 6 days after 3 weeks out and I still get about 115k to 120k a year. there is no reason it should take 2 years to do 120,000 miles. -
Set a goal to a company like Transport National.
They're real picky and do hire a few new cdl school grads, but your chances are improved if you get flatbed experience first with a company such as Roehl. $1500.00 paychecks are common at Transport National. Terminals in WI are located in Wausau & Oak Creek.

**Update**
Contacted my local community college, had to wait a week to attend a monthly orientation session which they require. I was there 10 mins early, next guy was 45 mins late, last guy an hour late.. Total of 3 people.
Course-Ran through details about course: Runs every 5 weeks, $4000 course cost, plus about $400 dmv fees. College rep said most all students are funded though Workforce Development. Instructor states he only has 1 official person registered for the January course, requires a minimum of 4 students to proceed.
CWD-Also drove to Center for Workforce Development to inquire about possible assistance, as I am in fact a displaced worker. The Rep says, "Yes there sure is funding, there is a waiting list of about 60 people ahead of me, your looking at a 4-6 month waiting period"..
Course- Called instructor to ask how there is a waiting period while only one registered. He said to reach back out to CWD and tell them I have my permit and fedmed card and ready to rock. He said students drag their heels and let CWD know your ready and willing to get going.
CWD- Explained situation to Rep which said, "That would not be fair to others on waiting list". The president cut 8 million dollars in this type of grant funding, so pretty much don't hold your breath.
Course- Ok, I am again looking to pull out another $5K from my retirement savings and into the pocket of local community college. I'm not looking for free handouts, even though I fit the criteria to a T. I convinced myself to agree to those terms. A mistake, I've promised myself not to do time and time again.
Today @ 2pm is the application cut off. There is still only one person registered. There will not be a January course, good luck in 5 weeks time maybe there will be a class. I don't have 5 weeks to sit around and hope.
Train to hire with mega carrier is still looking like best approach for me.
This is not a remote community college system, this is the largest CC system in the state in it's highest population density.
Summary of College/CWD out put:
3 show up for orientation
1 student enrolled
60 in line for course funding
0 course available, even if paid cash out of pocket
Big shortage of drivers in US..
Unemployment levels are high..
Grants are there to help you..Vic Firth, Toomanybikes and tman78 Thank this.
