I have never thought that I would not be useful in my 50's I hate to say it. But here i am. not useful.

I am working on that.... might be a while. Surely there is room for a dinosaur like me as long there is a profane dispatcher to work with.

 

What's stopping you from being a profane dispatcher?

If your body is broke down (and from all your posts honestly it sounds like it is) you need to find out how to get paid to use your mind instead of your hands.

The good news is that this economy is the perfect opportunity to make a big transition like that. They are so desperate for people who don't suck it's almost comical.

I actually interviewed for a dispatcher position in Searcy which is a pretty large trucking/industrial type area. Always has been. Still is.

Anyway, the interview experience was ok in the beginning. Many late 20 to early 30's in there but it's a new generation. I can deal with that. But the older one who interviewed me indicated I was too profane for the people there because times have changed to mostly sanitized PC in corporate. I would be too... upsetting to the young ones.

Oh really? It was a good interview but no way they will hire old me. Nuh uh.

As for the mind, I have been working on that a little bit. I aint lost it yet. I have certain other activies online that might bear fruit at some point in the future. It's like raising crops, it takes time.

 

Usually when I bring up the subject of goin otr or regional the first response is "What...Are ya Goofy?" So I understand why he asked if he was crazy but I don't think it's a half bad idea if that's what he wants to do imho!

LOL really? That's not going to be a consistent problem. The sheer amount of profanity in trucking to this day is staggering. At the same time refraining from profanity isn't THAT hard if it's truly mandatory. Obviously don't swear in your job interview, they will wonder how often you swear normally if you swear in your job interviews lol.

I'd also avoid voicing any political opinions at all. Letting other people know what you're against and what you're for IRL is one of the things I've recently decided I'm not doing anymore. There's no point to it. You aren't going to convince anyone which means the only reason to listen to someone is to let them convince you of something. Most people aren't very suggestible about politics and religion. Which is why they aren't good topics. Sometimes manners are manners because it's best for everyone. Sometimes it's because people want to be ridiculous and wash extra forks.

 

I actually experimented with social media a time with family who was all over it. It was a education I think was valuable. Eventually I disposed of it because it tends to divide people and that is not a good goal to have.

I did keep it clean for the most part er.. once or twice it would come out when they throw a question as a surprise. I don't regret the interview experience the company actually moved into Oklahoma I think 6 months later. I might have been there now trying to rebuild a life.

There is one thing I have done most of my life. When there is a door kept shut, you do not try to force it there is a reason it's shut. People get difficult and very hard lives trying to open shut doors. And that's a shame.

One more thought, Trucking is not work. However it is sometimes on really bad dark days with a truly terrible load ugh... you want it gone now and lose money to boot. I have managed to literally decide what I would like to do in life and get hired on to go do it. My work record is really trashy but I would not trade one day of all that for a compliant life as a worker bee in a corner cubicle minded by three bosses.
