I just lined up 3 loads less than 150 miles for $800 next week and another 2 for less than 100 miles for $500. And I'm home every day of the week
How often do you move a $200-$300 load?

I used to scratch around for hauls like that. I found some regular ones that were ok. But with current market conditions I'd be leaving mega bucks on the table doing those loads.
My bread and butter are hauls in the 250-550 miles range, sleep in the truck overnight to deliver, then load right back to the start area or deadhead there for another one. I get thru the house a time or two during the week and off weekends.
I clear a helluva a lot more doing that than I ever did stringing together $500 loads that got me home nightly. Doing less loads and easier work imo too. -
Out here it's pretty much oilfield truckin or Walmart greetin. And since I ain't quite old enough (my kids will argue this) for the latter, I'll stick with the former.Lepton1, Tug Toy and whoopNride Thank this. -
Depends a lot on where you're at, too. 2-4 hours from a decently sized city in several different directions and there really isn't much to getting home every night, where when you live IN a city and it's 6-8 hours to the next one, you're probably going to have to overnight on the road more often.

I'm 1.5 hrs from Nashville, 1 hr from Chattanooga, 3 hrs from Atlanta, 2.5 hrs from Birmingham, 2.5 hrs from Knoxville. It's a good area with plenty of freight criss-crossing major lanes. There's also Louisville and Memphis not much further out. Louisville is definitely a good city for me. Memphis I hardly ever go there though at times I know it's a great market,

Depending on where you live, look to cash in on what's hot in your area. Western Oklahoma? Oil field? Oh hell yeah. -

Had a load posted that would get me home; but 2 picks, 2 drops, 6ft tarp, lumber, 48k lbs, 350 miles for .... $425
Any takers???!Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Other times I've done a cheap one as a favor for a very good customer. Like run an empty 20 miles to drop off at a tire shop. Or go get it after tires have been put on. But in those cases its cause I'm already there loading/delivering.rollin coal, Lepton1 and 6wheeler Thank this.
