Tomorrow morning my payweek cuts off. Everyday has been a nightmare managing a solo reefer truck with all the surprises and big delays.
Just last night TQL calling me at 12:30 am for updates cause my driver is asleep and doesnt answer even after I told them earlier he's asleep because he ran out of hours waiting to be loaded .
Did do over $5 a mile all miles, they deserve to pay higher and higher for always holding up trucks forever.

Home_on_wheels and Shock Therapy Thank this.

Done a Tyson delivery a couple months ago. Dry Van. This was a straight through delivery. Made my two picks, headed to Tyson to unload and try to get back home all in the same day.

Arrive at Tyson, they look at me like I have three heads. Guy has no intention of unloading me, has me park on the opposite side of the warehouse. I emailed the broker to let them know it was a potential problem. an hour in, no dock. 90 minutes in, no dock.

Call broker. Brokers says to hang tight and that detention starts after three hours at $25/hr.

Um, did you forget the Rate Con I signed? Try $80/hour after two hours, billed in 15 minute increments. Oh yeah, they said it might be in the morning, so this could get really expensive.

15 minutes later, yard dog comes to my door, tells me to head over and back in. I was out of there in just over two hours total, and back home that night.

When money is on the line, folks tend to step up and get their jobs done.

First three months with authority, which was the 4th quarter of 2017. Even with the learning curve of coming out here nervous, learning the load board on my own, learning to talk to brokers....

$2.63/mile all miles (ifta miles, so every mile ran on the truck). This is with a Dry Van. Ran just over 23,000 miles for the quarter, so plenty of home time.

Off to a better start this quarter, hoping to see the trend continue to climb!

    1) it's a public forum.
    2) we like FW.
    3) it's not really a Schneider thread anymore. It's a FW does it on his own thread & it just happens to still be in the Schneider section.

    Anymore questions?

It's still an important thread.. where I started, how things were and what happened along with many other people's experiences.
Even more important now is sharing what the real world is like so drivers are aware of how low paying all these carriers are.

In the good times at Schneider I still had to do two short loads a day to hit at least $2 all miles.
Now in the open market I'm easily doing over $4 all miles currently with the truck solo. Last week was over $5 all miles and that's after giving up the carrier's cut. If I wanted to do 100-200 mile loads that would be even higher.
I know things are better in the spot market now but come on, point is we were not getting no 65% plus FSC.

You've got to go out and get your own loads and customers to make the big bucks. When a carrier becomes a middle man in that they find a way to keep more for themselves peroid.
