I've been dealing with getting my truck ELD compliant since Christmas. FEDEX put me out of service until it was resolved. FEDEX already got rid of two other local drivers in my area and we would cover loads in and around the tri-state area. One guy got thrown out for 3 years because he got convicted for a speeding ticker 20 miles over the limit in his personal car. It's actually in our lease that they can toss us for speeding, texting while driving and not wearing a seatbelt in our trucks and cars. Yes, it's an overreach.
The other guy's truck wasn't ELD compliant and they threw him out. They told him in July that December 15th was his last day. You won't believe what happened to him. His truck mysteriously caught fire.
Anyway so the three of us are on the shelf. I have a dedicated run 2-3 times a week. I let them know what was going on. This is a worldwide multi-billion dollar company. FEDEX handles all of there logistics. The company calls me up yesterday and tells me that everything since January 2nd has been ####ed and, a FedEx CSR said they can not accommodate their trucking requests because they have NO DRIVERS in the area. WTF!? How do you tell a customer that?
A dispatcher begged safety to let me log by paper to run a load which is 49 miles and they refused citing ELD. This is not how you service a client. This is not how you keep a happy client. They tossed out 2 of the 3 drivers that I would normally rely on if I needed help or wasn't available to run the load. The 3rd guy runs over the road now since he bought a new truck 2 years ago.
Thankfully I am back to rescue FEDEX from it's self, again.
How to work around Electronic logbook??

Because my truck is 23 yrs old and powered by a 32 yr old engine which allows me to legally run paper logs, I'm trying to pull shenanigans??
Hate to piss on your parade but, my bucket of bolts has been inspected 3 times, and 3 times I was complimented on the condition of my truck!
My truck was basically pulled out of a weed patch with a blown engine, ( factory Glider ) and I personally with my own 2 hands rebuilt nearly the whole thing. Not every O/O running paper logs has a bunch of junk like you mentioned in your statement. Some of us care about our trucks, mine may need painted but it's mechanically top notch.
31 yrs with a good 3 million miles accident free so far, may change tonight.
ZERO log violations in those years, and ZERO speeding tickets etc of any kind in over 10 yrs. Not to bad for someone labeled an outlaw, simply because he doesn't have a machine. -
####### genius. There wil be a thriving market for those who can reprogram elogs for you. Hack them and change them to suit your needs.Oxbow and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this. -
Oxbow Thanks this.

@OLSSKOOLERnWV You tell'm. Thanks. My 2 need paint way more so than yours but I am right there with you on the concept. As a teenager I worked for a farmer who often said: 'nails and paint will make it look like it aint'.
D.Tibbitt, OLDSKOOLERnWV, ShooterK2 and 1 other person Thank this.
