...to start.
I have a buddy who bought a new KW T680 a few months ago. He told me that last week he received a service tech notice from the dealership saying that KW has been having some issues with these logging devices plugging into the ECM ports. To the extent that some ECM's have been fried completely.
The warning was that IF there are issues with the ECM and they can prove it's related to the elogs being plugged into the ECM, they will VOID the freaking warranty!
Think about the legal quagmire this can create from a liability standpoint. The lawyers will be lining up to go after anyone and everyone they can for damages, including the FMCSA.
This could end up being a very juicy irony in the end run![]()
I'm waiting for the class action lawsuits...

Maybe the lawyers will even drag the head of the ATA in for "leveling the playing field!" LOL
Joetro, whoopNride and Oxbow Thank this. -
Why the fmcsa. The problem is either with the truck or with the eld.Tb0n3 and driverdriver Thank this.

C'mon, man. Lawyers will drag anyone into court to affix blame if they can, including your grandmother.
If this does become a litigious problem, the FMCSA would definitely be drug in, they are the one's that created and enforce the ELD requirement.Broke Down 69, Jagsfan and Oxbow Thank this. -
And, the truck manufactures have had no obligation to provide ECM connection for this purpose (ELD). That could change in the future I suppose.Snailexpress Thanks this.

That's like suing CARB for the maxxforce issues.
For all I know that did happen though.x1Heavy, HappySafeLegalDriver and Hammer166 Thank this. -
Not really, as the manufacturers new what the requirements were going to be (EPA emission standards). As far as I know the manufacturers have no obligation to provide a means to accommodate ELDs, yet.

I'm glad someone is seeing there is a problem with buggy devices hooked up to the "tempermental" databus in these trucks. I had issues to no end and no one wanted to look at it because it would take too much time to figure out...Oxbow Thanks this.

If I were the head of the OOIDA, that's what I would do next. Try and find a couple of poor guys who were just trying to obey the ELD mandate law and as a result their ECM fried with no recourse from the manufacturer. Then I'd file a class action lawsuit, (inviting the rest of us who are owner operators to join in) against the FMCSA & ELD manufacturers for damages.

I would. You pushed for the regulation, you share in the culpability for damages.Joetro Thanks this.
