Does anyone know anything about this?...10 day orientation to become a solo driver at Watkins and Shepard...in a way I want to do it so I can become a solo driver faster because I don't want to spend weeks with a stranger in a small truck with no space to call me own...but will I get the correct training that a trainer can give me?...Someone give some information up on this...

Now I just have to get my schooling done .. anyone got a spare $2600 you can loan me ..Papa T Thanks this. -
If you already have your CDL, it's a for real program. I'm in the 30 day program right now, and we're on our second set of 10 dayers. They sit in on some of our classes, and they have access to the practice trucks to practice in the yard.
I will tell you to show up ready to work and show up with your A game. The first set of 10 dayers (3 of them) didn't last. Not all of them for driving reasons.Papa T Thanks this. -
Your right about it being there trucks...but that doesn't mean I want a accident on my MVR...but I just felt as though a trainer would give you tips on things...basicly I just wanted someone to watch to take his best traits...and someone to watch me to make sure i'm doing everything correctly...but I do want to be on my own ASAP...it sucks that the 10 days isn't paid for though...hard decision right now...

Was going to attend the 10 day orientation after I finished a local CDL school.
Start the 3 rd week tomorrow and just yesterday I get an email saying my 167 hour school is not enough for W-S.
Kinda bummed, as I fully explained the course to them, they contacted the school and gave the go ahead.
Now.........
Guess something will happen, just dread having to spend weeks on end working for next to nothing, living with someone I know absolutely nothing about and having to trust them with my life. -
I see it this way...me going thru weeks with a trainer i get along with...then i think it will make me more confident and that would probably answer all questions or problems i might have on the road with someone there to guide me...but if i'm on the road just after talking about company rules and regulations...when i have a problem on the road or question...i'm stuck talking on the phone with dispatch because i don't know...or i'm stuck trying to get a driver to help me...i rather just get a trainer...learn from him...try planning everything my own...backing my own...doing everything my own towards the end...then going solo...i think it will make me more confident and have less problems...only problem i'll have for sure with a trainer is i'm not able to sleep moving...and i also don't want to get USED...it's a difference in learner and being taught...then being used...i'm not going to come right out of school...and have the stamina to drive for 11 hours...so i hope he doesn't expect that...everything takes time...i'm sure i might have to go to the bathroom alot until i get use to driving that long...

Well like i said...its a hard choice to make...but i dont like the fact that its 10 days unpaid...
Papa T Thanks this. -
Minus, I did the 10 day in Sayreville, NJ in October pretty much for the reasons you already mentioned. I didn't want to spend a month or more with a stranger in his truck, and I needed to start earning a paycheck asap. For me there were more pros than cons, so it was worth it.
