Ask him if he's spoken with his CPA about the changes.

Good idea... I think I can explain he will save on workers comp plus taxable income from all OTR drivers. Savings of 10K min per OTR Driver for the year.
I might be wrong, please correct me if I am. Ty

Don't even though per diem is changing your personal deduction is doubling so there is some offset there.

Yes but if your company reimbursed you for living expenses through per diem, you can take the standard deduction also.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

That’s the impression I’m getting. Other mega carriers haven’t stopped per diem to their drivers. There must be a reason why, right?

Also BW, I just found out... My small company rents sleepers with a full service agreement. Tires and all... Cost is 600-650 weekly and 10/11 CPM. Walk away rental agreement as well.
Thought you might want to know.

I think that's how company drivers should get paid, they need change/fix the laws. Your not at home, your at work- you should be getting paid your time. The by the mile incentive is bullshat, if the company is is watching what's good on they'll know which driver's are just milking the clock and which are still doing their job just as well.

I agree... I definitely don’t milk it. I will admit, it has made me a more curtious driver. I respect others as you should, never rush rush rush. There is no excuse to have an accident when being paid by the hour. Don’t get me wrong, just like the mileage guys... I do have appointments that I must get to. A .50 CPM Driver will ruin me (pay wise) down the interstate BUT when we come to a stop, a dock, traffic, fixing a trailer light, waiting to fuel, finding a parking spot I will always end up on top. And the company gets a Driver that actually cares about others, the equipment and takes the time to do a proper pre trip/post. I think you know what I mean.

Feedman, Lepton1 and StrokerTSi Thank this.

The big misunderstanding on per diem in trucking is it is money being given to drivers. That is wrong. It is a way trucking companies can reduce their share of social security. Not saying that you don't understand this but many do. For example somone is paid 40cpm. The company will split it 30cpm is what you are taxed on 10cpm is per diem. With this model the driver could not do per diem at end of year.It also makes you yearly gross look smaller

    TallJoe and BoyWander Thank this.
