I have always loved the 13 speed. A very versatile transmission. To bad so many companies use the ten-speeds.or the auto-craps nowadays. You are quite correct about the engine/transmission combination.

My last gig was pulling a tank with an auto. I loved it. Especially in stop and go traffic. Only used manual mode when climbing or descending grades.

A lot easier to control the surge with a manual trans.
Like it or not, autos have kept wages down.RockinChair and roadranger550 Thank this. -

Allison has been developing a cvt for class 8 use since 2012. I wonder why we don't have it yet?
I'm driving a sentra Nissan today and acceleration is ok but does not pull very hard or chirp tires. What I like is 40mpg easy. And the fact the engine keeps at 2200 rpm no matter if I'm driving 80 or 60mph, once it's settles. This is what is fascinating to me. For fuel economy it just makes sense. But I've been reading cvt are not made to last long in reverse, and belt slipping is a issue sometimes. Still very fascinating.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Eaton ultrashift plus is a manual transmission with servo controlled selectors, and hydraulically actuated clutch. Being that it will never miss a gear, and rev matches (floats) all gears perfectly to road speed, the only time the clutch even gets used is during backing or starting. Ultrashift will last forever. Electronic issues are another thing, sometimes it wakes up and doesn't know where it is (NEUTRAL), that's all software and has mostly been completely all worked out. -
Makes sense?
If the boss man who owned his precious special edition 300Z that I managed to absolutely max out near PA one fine day, with everything pegged roughly 183ish for a few miles with nothing left on the top end in top gear....on the floor. He probably wants to shoot me. Told me to take it out to get gas, great. Just did not notice I got gas twice on that thing. First time to fill and the second after that fuel gulping run. WHATAENGINE in that thing... whooo.. doggie.
MSP might have a ax to grind too if I ever got caught doing that. -
x1Heavy Thanks this.

It was still smoking at the tires when I turned it back in to the boss. I ran some water over it in the detail bay to make em quit that. Here Boss, nice and clean. Haha. Yessir.Oldironfan Thanks this.
