I am looking into going to a particular school close by offering free training and no experience required but one of the requirements was a 3 year work history report. I am just about to leave High School and the only job I've had is retail during this past summer. Will they even see me?

How old are you? It's a little hard to find a trucking job if you're under 21 yrs. old, but there are jobs available. Where is your location?
I know of some companies in Nebraska and Texas that hire 18 yr. old cdl-A drivers. There's jobs available; many are with household goods moving companies or in agriculture.
Talk to the people at the school and if they accept you, go for it; get that CDL-A.

    No experience. Zip, None, nada.

I literally had nothing when I joined my school off the street. Maybe 10 in my pocket, a high school diploma which they were not interested in... (More on that in a minute) and a half tank of gas in my ford beater downtown on Haven Street office in Highlandtown area of Baltimore City. (A little tough area...)

What they REALLY lived for (Took me years to get that light bulb, talk about being asleep at the switch... story of my life)... get this...

When a large woman staffer asleep at her desk sits up straight, grows big eyes and puts on the mint juliep and manners to boot, it's because you are to sign one peice of paper. That is making it possible to get a cash check of 2500 from dear old Uncle Sam direct to her and the school owners in exchange for my debt and 4 months learning if that is even possible.

    ###### run for that kind of cash. This one did for sure. She could NOT wait for any thing else. Hands me the pen and had me sign that form before anything. FAST.

Now... I don't know about you, but it's a little tender being that young and ... enjoyed that quickly in a few minutes without doing anything at all except signing one form.

I have a serious doubt you are going to get company financed school until you are 21. The work experience thing is not that big an issue provided you can account for the 3 years. And the answer to your last question is in almost every case if you are under 21, NO!

    Edited to add another point.

If you can try to get a job working on a dock with one of the LTL carriers. They use yard trucks and sometimes you can get some time driving them. I know a lot of drivers that started their careers working these docks. Don't develop tunnel vision, look around and see what you can do in these years until you are old enough to drive OTR.

Go to an LTL company or start working at UPS. Those companies will put you through a paid CDL school after working the dock for a while. You will be way better off in the long run.

Forget about OTR and trucking school. Most OTR companies will not take anyone until there 23 and cannot take anyone until they are 21. They don't want you anyway.

Pay is better at UPS/LTL and in the long run you will be money ahead and a much better job.

Yup what to many bikes said. But if you want to make your own mistakes, instead of learning from experiance. Google van lines neat your location. Then go to the closest 1atlas van lines, 2north American van lines united or mayflower can lines agent. It is a little slow right now. But a fresh strong young guy is a precipes catch. After 3-4 months there, they will train or pay the school to train you. During that 3-4months ask all the road drivers you come in contact with (it will be a lot) questions. If after that 3-4 months your agent wont train or pay for your training. You will no who will.

I doubt that. I'm guessing that's the school he wants to go to get just doesn't want the drama of telling us so.
