So if Cummins is moving their filter mfg. facility out of Iowa to south of the border, half of the filters available in the U.S. will be made in Mexico?

I purchase a lot of my Cat parts, (especially filters), from the local International dealer (Cat jobber?). While they do stock a large inventory of Cat parts, whenever they place an order, it is to the local Cat dealer, about two miles from them. How they can get parts from a Cat dealer, then sell them cheaper was explained to me, but I don't remember. Same scenario 50 mi. east at the local Peterbilt dealer.
I can cite a few examples where I saved money by going to the International dealer for Cat parts, and filters are one.

Might be the same case in your area also, wouldn't hurt to check.
Word of warning! Cat parts people will frown when you price a part with them, then go to International and order the same part cheaper. They really frown when you go to them to pick up said part after they "conveniently" forget to include it in their delivery to Int'l dealer.......oh well, more $$$ in my pocket.

Thanks, will check into it. A parts guy I know from years back just jumped ship to International. He was always pushing Fleetguard years ago & hated Baldwin for some reason. Will be interesting to see if he has changed his theory on them at all with the change in job.

If you think a Cat Primary is to restrictive you need to put cleaner fuel in your tank. Cat is using the micron rating to protect its fuel system.

Cat's primary filters used to be just a canister with a screen in it.
I personally wouldn't gamble with the secondary, put perhaps the primary is worth the aftermarket....except that the secondary may then plug sooner.

I only run 1R0749 on the secondary and before I had the AirDog I used 1212 as primary. less restrictive than cat 256-8753-FUEL-WATER-SEPARATOR.

That's what my truck a 2003 has for a primary. A canister with a screen and I clean it every oil change. Somebody told me that was the old style. Is it better? Saves money on filters for sure and I like that.

    SAR Thanks this.
