Then JIT is exactly what they are doing? How many shipments would you say are like this? Also, are the vendors having any problems with scheduling? The logistics major in me is curious, sorry for all the questions.

I picked up a load of water tonight that is due tomorrow, usually they don't dispatch you until they know you can't make it until the delivery date. It has happened where drivers have had to sit on a load to deliver to a dc, even their own, those stories get lots ood comments but they are few and far between. Have also relayed loads that weren't due for another day.

All shipments into walmart are done this way starting since last summer and fall.

Many people think that Walmart made thier empire from low prices. Low prices are nothing new. However, Walmart made their money by being the absolute best, most innovative company in terms of logistics. A study by Global Initiatives found that the average consumer saves 2500 bucks a year even if they never set foot in a Walmart. That is because everyone has copied their logistics programs.

If any big retailer can do JIT, it will be them.

Vendor shipments have a CDD. That is the appointment for delivery. Even if PF brings in the load it can not be delivered or the vendor can be fined. The consequence of that is vendors not releasing loads until it is impossible to violate CDD.

Mars in Mattoon,Il will hold all of the next days loads until 1900 ensuring that they can not get to 66 before midnight.

Oildry in Blue Mountain Ms will not give any load before date of delivery.

Probably others but those two jump out the most. I have called the ROC and had backhaul changed because I was going to be sitting a couple hours waiting on them.

The beauty of JIT is that helps the suppliers as well. After all, before it is Walmarts inventory, it is theirs and they have their own supply chains.

Just takes adjustment. And at times it seems a little silly. If I can not find parking I do what we call a Pit stop at my DC. That means they do not enter the load as arriving just note I am on yard. Next day I leave my pit stop and uturn at the gate to deliver.

I get it. The JIT/CDD rule. But at times:rolleyes:

I wrote a paper on this last year. Wish I had met you two then, would have helped. I wondered how it was going to effect drivers.

We were told we couldn't do this, said we would be charged for early delivery.

It is not just us. What I am going to say is going to roll eyes.

The DC's are also changing inbounding. At some point
Well safety says that if I need the parking space they can not turn you out.

Now if you make it a regular thing they are probably going to have a word with you. And I do try to find a spot at the truck stops or stop up at the store. However if there are already 15 trucks at the store, and the TS is full........

I have done it once at my home domicile, and once at 6072. No one ever said a word to me.

I did cajole a vendor into giving me my load, with a solemn promise it would not gate until CDD.
