I didnt say it doesnt happen. I said if it does happen, the workers get paid.

    And they should.

By definition, someone on a 1099 is a contractor not an employee. This means they are free to do whatever they want to do or free to not do something if they dont want to. The driver he "fired" wasnt free to do whatever he wanted to do, and thus he wasnt a contractor.

And the old hand said: "Why should I build a cabin, I'm doing fine here in my cave, it's a lifestyle".

Why didn't we listen to the old hand, we would still live in caves, no job problems, just fishing and hunting :(

@nightgunner I hope you will find a really good driver and not a pig like this!

Be glad that he was less than 48 hrs in the truck, it could be worse, here a few pics how I was assigned my first truck in Canada, "The truck is clean".

After I complained about the mess I was told: "If you don't like it you can go home".

@The Kraut I honestly don't understand how someone can live that way. I just don't get it.

To be honest, I was shocked!!
Don't want to know how it looks at their home.

I live in a truck, it's my living room, sleeping room, kitchen, it's my home away from home!

I've seen those who complain about there station in life called trolls, or entitled. The point of this message board, at least to me, is a place to show your ideals and hopes without hedging. I've got plenty I'd like to improve in my job and career, but it's unrealistic to expect any immediate change. We can talk of loftier goals here while working the trenches.

^ This. When I ran my truck, I used to look at the sleeper when I was driving, and smile at my little home. And when my driving was done, to go to the sleeper that was clean and ready to enfold me was comforting. I cannot imagine living with that filth.

Funny, I am admittedly not the neatest person in the world, but when I was OTR, I just could not drive if I hadn't made the bed in the sleeper.
