Majority of trucking companies don't pay overtime at all; they're exempt.
If you don't want to go through the dockworker program, then go with Superior-Carriers. After a year you can go straight to a linehaul driving position with Estes.

I had an interview beginning of dec with them they said they like for the guys to either start with them on the dock or have 2 years of doubles with someone else. They seem to be really picky

If someone has the patience, the dock to driver program really pays off in the long run. Once you finally get to a linehaul position, the big paychecks start to roll in. @KaoMinerva recently started with Estes; maybe he can give good advice.

Any way you can get it my best advice is to get in. I still have the regional bug and don't like driving nights so I chose Xtra board. They feed me whatever I want. I'm retiring from here.

I had my tests for Superior today. I filled out all the paperwork to be hired. However, Estes also contacted me. They want me to fill out a new application as Driver Trainee. I asked the manager what the likelihood of being hired on is. He said it’s highly likely as long as my MVR and Background check are clean, which they are. He said if I pass everything, I could start mid February, work as a dock worker until April, then go their school and after that start driving.

How hard do you think it would be to go from the Combo Local/Regional position to the linehaul or whichever it is that pays the most? Also, how is the pay as Combo Local/Regional? Thank you for your insight that you have already provided!

I wouldn't recommend that combo stuff because I'm lazy, but you'll be paid hourly for dock, mileage for miles. Simple

I swear I've never worked for a place that has ####ed up my paycheck more than Superior. Save yourself the hassle and stay away. I could write a book. Their good reputation on this forum is completely unfounded in my experience with them (1 year). YMMV and all that.
