I don't have a dog in this fight over either substance, however it has affected two individuals that are close to me, both due to marijuana usage.

At 20 years of age, my cousin, same age as myself, was stoned one night and decided to drive thinking he was not impaired. Needless to say he was, rolled his pickup truck and has been confined to a wheelchair ever since.

My best friend lost his wife to an individual who was impaired from marijuana usage. He was so stoned that he told the first responders that he thought he was at home playing Grand theft auto and was driving at speeds of 90+ before he crossed the center line and killed my best friends wife. He got 20 years for vehicular manslaughter, out in 8 with good behavior.

These events could have taken place with alcohol or texting or any other impairment, however that was not the case either way. Two lives destroyed for no reason at all, sadly it's an all too common occurrence these days.

I'll never understand why people feel the need to jeopardize the lives of others or their own, just stay home or get a ride if you're impaired, just doesn't make sense to me. Painful memories to say the least, the consequences of our actions can be very unforgiving.

Speaking as a former smoker I have to agree.

Down a whole fifth of whiskey in one sitting and you’ll likely wake up dead. Marijuana at least won’t kill you in that fashion, nor will it leave you sick for the next one or two days, provided of course that it isn’t laced which whatever crap is fashionable now.

    I guess I’m a “pothead” too.

Guys, as much as I could appreciate that sentiment, let’s try not to insert politics here.

The difference isn’t about which one impairs you more, it’s that alcohol is legal and weed is not. You may not agree, and lots of people don’t, but that is the law

As much as it might pain people to admit it, marijuana is illegal. The states that have dropped their laws are just that. States where no state law applies. However there is federal laws against this stuff but were not enforced during the latter part of the Bush term and all of Obama's. Im not a supporter of this drug being illegal, however it is. It will always be something the FMCSA is going to prohibit until it becomes legal and a better testing method is developed.

Just out of honesty I take pain killer's. I also take several meds for epilepsy. In fact I have to switch my meds around some so I don't become addicted. However even if I did not have epilepsy I would never attempt to drive while on this pain medication.

And the decision to not take a chance driving is commendable, scary to think of how many individuals that do and don't have the self restraint such as yourself. My hats off to you sir

Nothing much I could do anyway. Virginia stripped my license several years ago. I doubt I could (george jones) down the road legally. They don't screw around with epileptics that have seizures. (If you know what I mean)

That I do, one of my longtime friends from grammar school was epileptic, first thing NY did was take his license from him. He's now on SSI disability, I feel for him, all he wanted was a normal life, he's 40, lives with his parents and can't drive.

alcohol was once illegal as well look how that worked out, in fact its no different...... unjust laws should be broken, in fact had it not been for my CDL and a need to protect a livelihood and my way of life, that's one law i would still be breaking. to fully understand the issue one must look at the history of alcohol prohibition AND the marijuana prohibition history. alcohol was illegal and enforcement was largely responsibility of harry J. anslinger. when the prohibition of alcohol ended he needed something for him and his legal criminal gang to attack. marijuana was consumed by jazz musicians, Mexicans, and black people. it was an easy target. in fact he went in front of the WHO (world health organization) to convinced them one by one to make cannabis an illegal and controlled substance.

this country was founded on the idea of breaking unjust laws. its called being a patriot. did the founding fathers follow all of the laws set by the ruling law? the tea party? LOL.... ironic that the founding fathers.... George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew and consumed cannabis and the constitution of the united state was indeed printed on hemp fiber paper.

harry anslinger was a legalized criminal and gangster, given the opportunity to spit on his grave i would do it with glee.
