Your time is your property, last time I checked, property is a civil right? So a welder at a refinery can work 7 12s for a month, and yet commute back and forth to work (crane operator, heavy equipment operator) all because of less than 100 truck wrecks caused by "at fault" truck drivers even though almost 2 billion miles traffic is recorded?
Why are the stats thrown out there by politicians and political "committees" and "research councils" (academics who make their living producing red tape reports?) why do they leave out the part that of the 4,750 wrecks involving a truck, 75% of them were accidents where it was found that the truck driver was "not at fault"? (the numbers will vary within 500 or so from 1995 through 2007)?
Break it on down all the way to the number of wrecks where neither driver was at fault and surprise, surprise that 2% number is the same number as the "at fault driver"? Or is it a surprise at all to expect that 2% of all wrecks will not be influenced by legislation?
The red flag is when they throw out the biggest number they can, thinking that the average citizen won't contest it, and it justifies their six figure paper pushing salary?
Just passing through, we'll get the ball rolling politically and fight back against this. We will not falter, we will not tire, and we will not fail to be the American fathers bringing home the bacon, safely, in the land of the free, and the home of the brave (bravery includes living without government regulations that falsely protray protection against something they cannot guarantee).
They also do not publish the numbers "local" vs "long haul" drivers? I wonder why?
Why do truckers surrender civil rights with HOS regs?

Your time is your property but driving is not a right, nor is traveling on a taxpayer funded highway.
While I'll agree that drivers have to put up with way too much crap from the government at all levels but I don't beleive that HOS is among them. Its the application of HOS that I have issues with.
In my opinion when a driver is popped for HOS the company should be required to IMMEDIATELY forward ALL dispatch records for that driver. Companies should be required to maintain dispatch records the same way many other companies are required to maintain records. These records should include all pickup and delivery requirements as well. When a company is found to have dispatched a driver on a run he cant legally complete the dispatcher involved, DM/FM, Safety manager, and owner/CEO should be fined. The reason I don't beleive in fining the "Company" is because a Company is a group of people. It's the people making the policies that determine how a Company operates, just like a driver decides how a truck operates when he's at the wheel.Papa T, Wiseguywireless, Double L and 1 other person Thank this. -
Your kidding right? Fuel taxes, which are substantial, pay for highway funding. Anyone who drives buys fuel, therefore, should have the "right" to use highways.
Of course, you can use the pink diesel...to get around the tax and save a lot of coin... just do NOT get caught.
Kidding of course...

Statistically, flying in a commercial aircraft is the safest way possible to travel. Of the accidents that do happen, some are equipment failure, some are the fault of a private pilot, and some are the fault of the pilot. Do you think commercial airline pilots should have regulations governing how much they can fly commercial aircraft?
I don't know anyone who would disagree with that. How is it different than your driving a commercial vehicle? -
Maybe we should have an auto pilot system on our trucks.Lol

The regulations are to protect your rights and keep carriers from pressuring drivers to drive until they are dangerously fatigued . Other drivers on the highways have a right to expect safe conditions and not have to be concerned about being killed by a driver asleep at the wheel . Since time is your property do you also feel speed limits are a violation of your rights ?
Why do you object to being limited to 14 hours a day and 70 hours in 8 days ?Double L and psanderson Thank this. -
No, actually I support going the speed limit, it only takes 1 15mph pop to get suspended (remember that in unmarked construction zones where some states require to do drop down 15mph without it being posted).
If I am two weeks on the road, I don't want to be sitting at a rest stop bored out of my mind for 34 hrs. And it adds to the whole logistical chain not just drivers, who try to schedule loads around these idiotic rules that have no scientific basis.
If you try to work 14 on, and 4 or five off, you end up not making any money, and this adds to the stressful lifestyle --which IS documented, and not just the driver, but the whole chain of supply.
If you are getting a ten hour break every day, and you and airline pilots are the only ones filling out log sheets, then you've let some politician somewhere engineer a pure fantasy in my opinion.
35% of all taffic wrecks involving a big rig were from going too fast for conditions by the truck driver? Still think you look good doing 75mph passing everybody doing 60?
Have a wonderful day, I'm determined to get that 34 hr rule yanked for long haulers, they can call in sick if they are that darn tired (golly gee). -
I think what he means is that 'labor' is your property. Of course, it takes 'time' to perform the said 'labor'.
Incidentally, being 'labor' is your sole proprietorship means 'labor' is a none taxable commodity. Yup, it's true.
Oops, might have opened a can of worms here!
Spacer Thanks this. -
Who in the heck are YOU? That 34hr break rule gives drivers the room to make money out here. YOU are detirmined? YOU can kiss my a--. It is idiots like this that drive 60mph trucks that make the job difficult. Same idiots that want to run 60mph in the middle of the right two "truck" lanes.
Leave the HOS rules alone. Somehow somebody got this passed. Thank you. Chalk one up for the good guys, because I know that the bears can't stand it.
Runners can now 11/10 the book for 5 days, show the reset, and roll again. 4,500 mile weeks are here to stay. If you don't like it, Don't do it. I am home, with my family, every week for up to two nights, and still get my miles.
How? Fuel and PTI on the same line. Pre-loaded trailer at start, unload and reload in the same door. Run back.
I still have PLENTY of time to enjoy the trip. Take a bunch of pictures, take a walk and shower everyday. I am loving this.Papa T, andrew5184, Maverick and 2 others Thank this. -
I'll answer your question with a question.
When was the last time you walked into MY bank (not yours) carrying a gun?
After all, we do have the 2nd amendment...right?
Some things you just don't do, because there are good reasons for having rules that prohibit/limit certain actions.
And taking a stand on every little issue, detracts from the larger picture.psanderson, Double L and Papa T Thank this.
