Buying new trucks?

Rate per mile is the key..........

no $1.07 a mile stuff. Mine was $150ish 8 years ago. Some years are better than others lol.

 

I paid $198,000 for mine with extended warranty in May of 2016.
Just did my preliminary tax estimate, net $78,000 for my self.
Average close to $3.00 per mile pulling Super-B train hopper bottom.

 

Only put 10% down , so big payments = $4,200 a month for five years.

 

4200/60 months=252000+19800=271,800? Does that include trailer? Forgive me for asking just never bought a brand new truck. I buy when a truck hits 300-400k miles. Maintenance is higher but a new one needs maintenance too.

 

Well if you pay 150K for a new truck and run it for 500K miles at about 1.20 a mile or so, you've made 600K on the truck its lifetime. That's 450K more than cost, with fuel and insurance and the ability to sell it for 40K at the end of the 500K, you're really not doing that bad. That's 110K difference between buy price and sell price yet it's made you over a half million in its lifetime.

 

Bought trailers back in 2013 for $100,000. Same 10% down, $1702 a month for 5 years. Will be paid off this coming August.
So that’s about $5,900 a month between the two. Plus Average about $2,000 a month for maintenance, which is mostly tires (I have 30 of them). I net about $15,000 a month from the carrier after plates, insurance and fuel. So that gives me close to $9,000 a month to play with, minus meals, office, accounting, shop rent. I wind paying myself a steady $7,000 a month.
So that’s how the math works on a $200k truck.
If I were to go back to five axle work, I could get away with a lighter and cheaper truck. My truck as spec’d now has a DD16 600 hp, 18 speed UltraShift MXP, 46,000 lbs rears, heavier frame.

 

Out of curiously, what do you guys hual in the hopper trailers? I see them all the time but no idea what you guys are hauling.
