7/7, etc schedules are very desirable to people who don't need to work fulltime. People, like retirees, who have a steady check coming in from their previous employer would be attracted to these schedules as a way to bring in a little extra spending money without having to live on the road most of the month.

Not all people are burdened with heavy debt. Not all people are living paycheck-to-paycheck. Some people have their homes paid off, money in savings, and are just looking for a way to escape the boredom of staring at 4 walls all day.

I'm glad to see companies offering these schedules. Roehl seems to offer the most flexible scheduling of all the companies.

    sal Thanks this.

Ya, well, I guess I was naive. I fit the description noted above of someone who just wanted to drive as a hobby. I didn't mind being gone all the time and I didn't need the money but if I was just gonna sit for free I might as well do it at home with my wife. She's much prettier than lumpers at cold storage wherehouses.

I kind of have a Robin Hood mentality though. I don't want newbees who think truckn' is really gonna give them a $60,000 annual salary and ten straight hours in the bunk every night to be swept up in the lies. I could afford my $4,000 playdate with getting my CDL and seeing the country. Many people can't.

Oh man I know the feeling. I didn't mind being gone all the time either, for quite some time. Then I began to get the feeling that I had married my wife so that I could be with her, instead of having a lot of phone contact and just seeing her once in a while. Since she absolutely would not consider going in the big truck (some type of mental problem perhaps?);) I decided to come off the road for local work.

It worked well for about three years, but that's another story. I've now found that I'm not physically able to do the LTL stuff like I used to before the injury. But right now, I'm not ready to go back on the road either. Thank God for pensions!:biggrin_25520:

from looking around this forum I've found the following companies that offer flexible schedules, Rohehl, Knight, Transport America, are there any others? quite frankly I'd like 14/14 or 21/14 but don't see that. Also do these flexible schedules tend to be just for o/o or for their company drivers as well??
I'm in the situation of no debt, no kids, don't need a huge amount of money, time off is more important than more money, and in blocks, not two days here and there.
I've always been of the notion that absence make the heart grow fonder, I'd rather miss someone than be annoyed by them in my back pocket every day:) doesn't work for everyone but does for me!

Have not seen much posted here lately, I'm still trying to find out what companies offer flexible scheduling, albeit at reduced earnings, ie 7/7 14/7 etc, other than Roehl? and would those companies hire newbies?
I've had two friends offer to team with me, but I'm not sure we'd have the same needs, ie one wants $$ I want time off and less $$.

again, i just want blocks of time off, blocks of time on duty.
trust me, done 30+hr days with ATA and worldwide miltary flights, granted I was not flying the plane, I was a flight attendant, but I'm an experianced cross country driver, (towing 35ft RV) and think I might make the grade.....
So, I'm thinking how bad could this be? not as bad as a 9-5'er
