Yea mover the mod changed it before you saw it. The OP wasn't happy with the replies so he edited the title to something inappropriate to get people to click on the thread.
That's a suspendable offense on most forums.
Don't run starting fluid in a diesel. Any diesel. That stuff damages engines. If it won't run on what it's designed to run on, fix it, don't spray crap into it that it's not designed to run on. -
She have any updates ?

And sure, some people use it, and those people supply guys like the one in the video below with a steady stream of work from rebuilding engines damaged by starting fluid. I notice you didn't quote anyone else on this thread who said the same thing I did.
Other mechanics say don't use starter fluid with a diesel. Like this guy, one of the biggest names in rebuilding diesel engines. At 1:03 he states that starter fluid causes more engine rebuilds than any other reason. So no, I don't just make #### up.
Justrucking2 and nikmirbre Thank this. -
Hearsay about blowing the intake clean across the room.
That was when it hit the red hot electric "intake preheater" coils.
But then, there's a you tube video of a guy with a JD Green pulling tractor
just blasting multiple cans of the stuff thru his engine.
Heres fact; I got a diesel backhoe that I give a half second wiff of the stuff and it starts right up.
Without it you can crank the battery dead.
Also had a neighbor with a lawn tractor that wouldn't start, he put about a 2 second burst in there and put the plug back in. I said "don't do it; that's way too much." Of course - he did it.
The head with all the bolts together went about 10 feet out into the grass.
I drilled and tapped the block for heli-coil repair, and charged him $200.00 to let the lesson sink in.
So, No, I wouldn't use it on newer stuff, but for old tired POS items, used sparingly - it's the only option. -
Starter fluid causing more rebuilds than anything? My guess would have been worn bearings, piston rings, liner pitting, head gaskets, etc but oookkkaaayyy. I guess me and everyone else who has ever used it to prime a diesel are lucky that they didn’t grenade right before our very eyes
-
Obviously you didn't watch the video. He said it causes more engine rebuilds PREMATURELY than any other cause of PREMATURE ENGINE REBUILDING, meaning BEFORE it's just worn out.
It really helps to watch the video, lest you make yourself look stupid. -

I thought Freightliners were supposed to have a CEL on. I got to where I never paid much attention to the ones I drove if a CEL came on. Now that little red light got my attention LOL
