    Hello everyone,

My name is Chad. New to these forums. I’m currently enrolled in a cdl program at my local tech college. I could use the advice of some of y’all veterans out there. I recently obtained my cdl class A about a week ago but still have another few weeks of school left in order to get my school certificate. Here’s my problem, I was involved in an (at fault) rear end collision roughly 2 and a half years ago that resulted in a careless driving ticket. I was driving late at night and had a momentary lapse of focus and rear ended the guy in front of me. At the time, starting a career in commercial truck driving wasn’t even on my radar. Since then my driving habits have drastically changed. I am concerned about my employability having this accident/ticket on my mvr. Does anybody know what my chances are of finding a job? I’m also planning on moving to Atlanta after I finish school. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

    Regards, Chad

There are convicted felons getting jobs, your ticket is almost 3 years old. You probably can't get hired at the pickiest companies right now but things will start improving once your are 3 years past the ticket.

Wait for @Chinatown he knows hiring requirements like nobody else. Worst case scenario is you drive dump trucks to get past the 3 yr mark and then get hired for OTR.

    It's a problem, not a death sentence.

It helps to know what area you live in.

He's moving to Atlanta; that place is like a bumper car track at the amusement park.
Several companies will hire you @cthomas341 because some companies even hire drivers with up to 3 at fault wrecks within 36 months.

Thanks for the response. Do you know if aplying to some of the big carriers and getting denied will hurt me? Will I be able to reapply once it hits that 3 year mark or should I just wait?

www.drive4freymiller.com is one of the best refrigerated outfits for new cdl grads. Do the app. that's on the website. Go to the website and click on "Recent Graduates" then submit the "Quick App." Do that now, since you're already in school; don't wait until graduation.

Thanks for the reassuring response. I really had my eyes on Schneider since they have a lot of positions in Atlanta and they hire new drivers. I don’t know if I can get in with them though. My teacher says they’re kind of picky. Do you guys know the names of any companies I could look at in the ATL area?

I would not worry, as long as drugs or alcohol were not involved, just tell them.

Yeah that’s not an issue. I just keep hearing that every company requires a minimum of 3 year clean driving record. And I don’t know whether or not to try applying anyways or just wait until it hits the 3 year mark. Which would be this October.
