I always log sleeper berth at shippers & receivers. What's a shipper or receiver going to say to a cop, "I peeped inside his sleeper area and he was watching a movie on television."

Sleeper time is sleeper time. Whether you sleep or whatever is your own business.

Exactly and how many times have you seen a UPS truck getting a level 1 over the pit?

they dont get very many road side/scalehouse inspections because they have meticulously maintained equipment and the dot know this. Same with their hos compliance. Those union guys are on the clock for every minute they are even near the truck so they have zero incentive to not log perfectly legal.

I understand that but things can break at any time regardless of how meticulously maintained the equipment is. They should be inspected just like everyone else. After all, it's SUPPOSED to be about safety right?

Yes it's about safety. Not about busting balls cause a marker light went out mid trip. Safety is achieved by company culture. Things like implementing good thorough maintenance programs and good driver habits. Ups (and a few other companies) have this down to a science with a proven track record. The fmcsa knows this so spending resources doing random inspections on them is just wasting an officers time. Time that is paid for with tax dollars.

So they have magical powers that can prevent machinery from breaking during a trip? Or are you insinuating their drivers are perfect and could never ever miss something or slack? Please. UPS should get the same treatment as everyone else. Safety is never a waste of time.
