Why do I get the feeling expediters all own their vehicles? Do companies only hire owners?
If there are fleet owners looking for drivers, how could I find that information?
owner ops only?

There's some O/O's that look for drivers to drive their equipment, or there's fleet owners that are always looking. I know some of the expedite companies accept applications for fleet owners, so you may want to start there. Most of the time I see a 60/40 split, whoever pays for fuel & tolls takes the 60%, other takes the 40%. Some owners pay for fuel (mostly to cut down on OOR miles, and sightseeing i'd assume) and then some drivers pay for fuel too. Owners usually always handle repairs and maintenance.

A lot of the expediter companies have fleet-owners working for them and have a relationship setup to refer drivers looking for a job to the owners. FedEx Custom Critical has such a system setup and there are opportunities there whether you want to drive a van, straight truck, or semi. If you want to drive a class A and are a team, let me know
.

If you feel that way be advised after you deliver a load you are subject to being called anytime with a new load and you are expected to respond immediately . Of course if you are in a straight truck and out of hours you get your 10 hour break . Cargo vans aren't over 10,000 lbs. GVWR so FMCSR don't apply to them unless they carry an amount of hazmat requiring placarding . You could get a call within 5 or 6 hours . But then many expediters in cargo vans would love this . One reason they go to cargo vans is to avoid HOS and get more miles .miseryonwheels and Baack Thank this.

that's something I hadn't thought about, vehicles under 10k not being subject to hos. boy they could run the dogsnot out of ya couldn't they?
guess I'll have to go straight truck or larger =) -
They are talking about it by next summer HOS for cargo vans

Hey Kentucky ridge runner --
I think my hubby may be interested, can you let me know the specifics please? -
I belive if the GVW is over 26000 HOS applies. I could be wrong but i thought it was weight. I am running a crew cab 1 ton ( no sleeper) and according to TX DOT the only lines i should use is 1&3 and I need to keep a log because of my GCVW. I truly wish they would leave us alone and let us drive.

Log books and medical card are required if GVWR is over 10,000 lbs or any vehicle with hazmat requiring placarding on the log book . Many 1 ton pickups are over this but DOT in many states concentrate on a 1 ton hooked to any type trailer . That's guaranteed to have a gcwr over 10,000 lbs.
