Hey guys, I'm thinking about coming to Schneider bulk and I just had a couple questions about the equipment y'all got. I lost track through the thread but it seems like @newbietrucker91 and @Juanthehumanoid you guys both ended up with 10 speeds?
Do they have APU's and/or inverters?
Sounds like there's no refrigerators, is there room to put one, or at least a Coleman plug in cooler? (Last truck I drove was a Kenworth for melton and it had a built in fridge APU and inverter. Tarping and strapping in Laredo in July was too much for me, but the trucks were pretty decked out I guess.)
If there's no APU how is the idle policy for the tankers, or what climate control do you have?
How big are the sleepers? (I'm planning on living on the road basically)
I know you can't take the trucks home, but they are assigned right? I don't want to slip seat.
How long are the tanker trailers?
If ya'll could find time to post some pics of your sleepers that would be awesome.
How much trouble did you guys have getting used to working with The Surge?
Thank you both so much for all you have posted in this thread, it's helped me decide on which division to go with. Sorry for the deluge of questions, but any advice on any of them would be greatly appreciated. -
And thanks to you too @TaterFox, I appreciate all you guys posting your experiences here.
Juanthehumanoid and TaterFox Thank this. -
@SlowpokeTrucker No apu but the newer trucks come with a 1500 watt inverter however the newer models are all automatics. The newer trucks have idleair which cuts your engine on when the temp you set goes out of range but other then that you can disable to idle shutoff and idle as much as you want within reason. If it's really hot or really cold. I have yet to buy a cooler but the size of the sleeper is typical of other companies trucks I've driven. Only thing is it's a midroof so if your really tall that might be a problem.
The surge doesent bother me, but you will get use to it and shifting with it if you get a manual. Stopping however is more tricky cause that surge can slam into you and push you forward some.
You will either park your truck at a terminal or the closest tank wash to your house. They are assigned to you only but of course if you have it at the yard and a mechanic wants to do stuff to it they will jump in.
Trailers are all 48 footers and there are a variety of trailers you might get.
Hope this answered some of your questions.SlowpokeTrucker and TaterFox Thank this. -
@newbietrucker91 nailed most of it, they are a few weeks ahead of me, I came in as experienced, but new to bulk. I got a ten speed myself, no inverter, no Apu, but I did get a bunk heater. I'm 6' tall, and I get around easily still in the truck. The surge has been a learning experience.

Thanks for the answers guys. Sounds pretty reasonable, just have to see how it is when I get there. I definitely got used to having the APU running while I was in the stop showering or whatever. I'm a big guy and I run pretty hot, so I like a cool bunk to sleep in. I can't sleep if I'm sweating. I guess it sounds like a dumb thing to be overly concerned with, but I think I would have a much easier time learning to deal with the surging load than the comfort factor. There is no amount of skill and technique that will make me able to relax in a pool of ball soup.
Juanthehumanoid Thanks this. -

The trick I've learned is to run the AC in the bunk while your driving and the curtain closes. When you get stopped for the day, boom, nice cold sleeper for about 8 hours.
