Wherever the hell I wanted! LOL! I can't do that now, as I cannot do my thing, I have an ELD strapped to the dash. You don't get it, our entire operation has been turned on its head because of this device. I used to be able to call the shots, now, my dispatcher, who is incredible, is now in charge. I am a glorified company driver and have to take whatever comes up. It was not like that prior to the ELD. We ran how we wanted, told dispatch what was up, etc. Now, all of that is out the window. yes, rates are up, I worked five days this week, gross was over $8000, which may look great, but it cost me time, and more money than I wanted to spend in fuel to make that. I would rather work four or five easy days and gross $6000 and take home the same or more. You guys just don't get it, this is not OTR freight. There is so much more to this industry than anyone, including myself knows.

If you keep running out of hours, why not get a co-driver?

They can always work at Outback. No rules, just right.

I was going the porn star route, the hotty that puts out... Dude, I would not put a dog in my truck, and I cannot, rules and regs. A long week for me mileage wise is 2,000. A good week, is under 1,000. 98% of what I do can be done with a day cab. I don't go anywhere, I run the same suppliers and plants weekly here in Michigan. I don't hit everyone every day, some I may only visit every few months. This is not trucking like many think. If we did not go out of state, we could probably get away with a time card. But, it does not work like that.

When the driver facing camera mandate comes out, you might be able to revisit the porn star idea.

I am a company driver on e-logs, OTR. However, I hear what you are saying and realize that there is no one-size-fits-all in this industry. Typical over-regulation. If you can operate safely for 30 years using common sense and experience, why should anyone tell you how to operate today? Yes. I realize that we all must adapt. I only ran paper briefly when my e-log failed so I have been used to e-logs since I started. They are ok for me, but I do not feel that they make me a safer driver. That comes from using some common sense and good judgment. Anyway, no judgment from this two-year driver. Glad you can vent here.
