Could be. I have 800,000 now on my Detroit 60 12.7 reman in my glider. It still only uses about 1/2 gallon of oil between 22,000 - 25,000 mile oil changes. The used oil samples look as good as when the engine had only 50,000 miles on it.
So while a reman might not outlast a new motor, it would seem the new one has nothing on the reman except being new.
I can't speak to what Fitz is doing with engines, but my Detroit was a factory reman and had a Detroit 3 yr / 300,000 mile warranty included.
Fitzgerald Gliders might be getting more attention than they’d like

Hey, I saw some posts about emissions and global warming back before I signed up here. My late father was a chemical engineer and was very much against the idea that global warming was truly a man made phenomena.
NASA once had an article on their website during the early days of the studies. This article showed that studies of tree rings on some very old trees and various geological studies reveiled that this planet goes through fairly consistent natural climate cycles, averaging 300-370 years per cycle. The Natural cycle involves a gradual warming over most of the cycle period followed by a sharp short drop into a mini ice age that takes place over about a decade. Guess what part of the cycle we are in?
During the birth of this nation, the climate was in recovery mode from the last mini ice age. There are many well known mentions of crossing frozen bays and rivers that never freeze over today.
The "Oh-bummer" administration has purged this article from NASA.
As for older engines, they are capable of being much more fuel efficient as long as they use electronic fuel injection and computer control. As far as the emissions go on diesel engines, they have always been known to be much cleaner than gas burners. The soot is carbon, inert and harmless. It settles to the ground and improves the soil. Hek, they give people activated carbon in hospitals to remedy poisoning. The rest is relatively free from CO, being mostly CO2, and very low in Nx emissions.
In my opinion, the emissions BS actually cause MORE emissions. Why? Because the systems causes more fuel to be burned to overcome the efficiency losses it produces. More fuel always equals more pollution. These folks are like old Barny Fife shooting his own foot.
What we really have is all political BS. Some group or interest wants to intentionally weaken our manufacturing and delivery infrastructure. Why and who? Think about it. If they are within, treason comes to mind, if they are another country, they need to be taught a lesson.RubyEagle, singlescrewshaker, teaman66 and 4 others Thank this.
