If it appears I have 2 choices pending, slow a little to make a merge a little smoother, or hard brake to prevent an impact with an idiot (and there are many out here), I'm slowing a little. You do what you want.
This thread is full of what could technically be defined as "aggressive drivers" with little or no concept of defensive driving. Interesting.

If you are looking ahead as you should be, you should have a good quarter mile to adjust to give a spot for someone to enter the roadway either by speeding up or slowing down. The driver entering in that quarter mile should be matching the speed of traffic as designed, if your truck can not do the speed limit you are driving a hazard and those should be parked until traffic is real light. There is a design out there where all it takes is 1 not following or trying can throw the whole traffic pattern into kaos. Ever see what 1 person hitting brakes does to the mass following behind, given time it comes to a halt because somebody could not flow with the rest. These governed trucks are dangerous, probably causing more problems than the lead foots.
Wingnut1 and Mooseontheloose Thank this. -
Heres the difference, I run between Tehachapi , LAX or Downtown LA. I have to drive in the right lane or gamble on getting a 450.00 ticket, If I start the slowdown crap, I'll be continuously changing speeds, not going to happen. It is not aggressive driving for me to maintain speed so that the on coming traffic needs not adjust there speed, no it's up to them to speed up or slow down, or of course drive on the shoulder.
Ask CHP, they will tell you maintain speed and direction, it is far easier for a car to speed up or slow down than it is for a large truck.Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -

You can be the one who must be in front always or you can be the one that is relaxed and in control always, However you go you will always be where you are, sure you might be a couple of minutes earlier but you blood pressure and mood will be not at the best.
