Smart wheel for a T680 - to Add or not to Add

Look on Truck paper and see what the wheel has.

wow your sure getting allot of nothing answers to a simple qiestion.
i am shopping new KW and
smartwheel ONLY controls audio functions and cruise control (right side) ... i WISH it would control Engine/ jake brakes!!! just look at some close up pictures..

 

At my last job I drove a brand new T680 for a couple weeks to break it in. Three buttons on the right for cruise control settings and three buttons on the left for radio control. The Jake settings were not on the wheel which wasn't a big deal for me since I always left them on.

 

I just did some research on smart wheels for KW using google, I searched google for:
“kenworth smart wheel”, got a lot of hits but
I can’t say that I found an answer to your question. Most smart wheels require a factory OEM option prewire for a smart wheel installation. So the wheels listed were for replacing an existing smart wheel. I didn’t find any that could control a Jake Brake. Looks like complicated installation, and there are 2 different series, depending on the year of the truck.
As I suggested earlier, I would try to get in touch with Kenworth engineering department. I think they could give you a go / no go answer.

The wiring is not there if it does not have a smart wheel. Not cost effective at all to add due to the amount of wiring and programming to install it. If you want one buy a truck with it
