We should also include some costs the new junk trucks add to the bottom line. This doesn’t include labor costs, lost revenue, and unecessary downtime.

    EGR Valve $1000
    EGR Cooler $1000+
    NOX sensors $500 a piece
    Doser Injector Assembly $500
    Def Pump $3-400
DPF FIlter $2000 new, $250 to clean
DDEC software $7-800 for reading and clearing fault codes, forcing regens
    DEF @ $3 per gallon 15 gallons a week and 50 weeks a year $2250
Inframe for a DD15 ranges from $20k to $35k depending on how in-depth it is.

Having a well tuned 3406b that costs around 10k to rebuild putting 500 to the ground, getting 6-6.5 mpg, requiring no ecm or software and going 1 million miles or better with little more than overheads and routine maintenance? PRICELESS!!!

My father used to haul a lot of steel out of Western Penn. I have forgot this engine he talked about, but he swore by it. I'm thinking it might have been a cat. All I know is he said it pulled those mtns going south and left a lot of other trucks in his dust. He said it pulled and pulled and pulled.

I just don't remember. I was guessing when I said it might have been a cat. The primary reason I have no one to ask is all of those guys are no longer with us. The son of the man he drove for is still alive. If I ever get back to Georgia I might ask him if he remembers that old tractor.

I was just curious. That A model 3406 was a real puller. Smoked like a steamboat and got lousy mileage but put it ahead of a 6x4 and double lockers it would darn near climb a tree.

I'm not defending Freightliner I am using their specs as a comparison to trucks of old.
